I think that there are alot of people who have gone through this application and the experience of the actual seminar. Im sure any of us would be happy to answer questions. (just thought this might be practical)

yup. i went last year and will answer any ?s that anyone has.

PS- SS is awesome GOO!!!!!!

I will field any questions as well. SS is a blast!

(Finally, we can take the question-answering away from the cadets. Hehe. :) )

There are more willing to answer questions than people asking them.
Well, I'll help with the answering...

yea..maybe there arent alot of seminar kids on here yet

Here y'all go someone who wants to go SS and can't find thefreaking application! PLease tell me where to find it! Is it online or do you have to send for it?

Go to www.usafa.edu, then click admissions, then click admissions again, then click summer seminar. Then click How Do I Apply, and then Apply now. You should be able to find it through that. Or just go to http://academyadmissions.com/admissions/summerseminar/how_to_apply.php

Seems like the AF takes their summer seminar very seriously. They want an interview, letters of recommendation, etc- the Navy apparently doesn't need either. Why the difference?

I didn't have any letters of recommendation and I got acceptance confirmation before I had the interview, which I thought was kind of weird.

i had an interview but no letters of rec.

Interesting about what seems like inconsistencies. In this case the LO is also the AFROTC contact so the interview could turn out to be good/bad for both. This was the first interview in the whole process of applying to academies and their summer sessions so I don't know how to judge it. The LO gave no hints as to how it was going either. So time will tell. Saw something on the file that said level 2- does anyone know what that means? Obviously level 1 sounds better but if there are 5 levels or so then 2 might be ok. Anyone with inside info on this?

Im not sure about this year, but last year letters of rec werent necessary (i got in without recs and without an interview) I think that it may be that they schedule the interview with the people who are interested in summer seminar because although we dont think of it like this, the liason officers are recruiters and they probably want them to get to know you as soon as possible. I wouldnt worry toooo much about the interview though, just do your best and be yourself.

SparkleandShine? Whoa...Someone's trying to show me up lol

1down1togo:

My son's ALO told him that there are four levels. Level 1's receive invitations to SS automatically. Level 2's are highly competitive, but the AFA wants to have the input from the Liason Officer before making a decision. Level 3's & 4's are much less likely to receive an invitation to SS.

I have no clue where I fall in those categories, but I have a meeting with my ALO tomorrow afternoon. So I am guessing by the last post it is fairly normal, especially because my ACT scores I put on my aplpication where a point short on science.

Don't worry if you don't get invited to Summer seminar. I'm sure it might help your application, but it isn't necessary. Probably only 5-10% of people that actually come here went to Summer Seminar. I could be wrong about that percentage, but I don't know that many people that went to one.

Most people I know didn't go through SS. It's not that big of a deal for admissions.

Dd went through SS last year and received an LOA, nom, and now has an appointment. SS acceptance seems to be on the numbers--she was told of her acceptance in less than 2 hours. She did not do an interview for SS (obviously).

I have a question...How greatly do you think Summer Seminar would increase my chances of getting into the Airforce Academy? I mean does it greatly increase or is it indifferent and is just a great experience? I'm curious because I have heard many different views and i'd like to find out the opinions of cadets that are attending... Also, if I were to make it to Boys State would that be an award that the Air force Academy would look at?

Well the cadet that is your element leader at summer seminar does an evaluation on you and rates you from a 1 to a 10 for potential and i know that that evaluation goes with your application. And it also shows a level of committment, that you have thought about it more than just applying on a whim. I dont know if there is actually a point or something that you get for going. I doubt it. I think it just looks good.
