Thanks for this post. A little shocked to see less applicants than last year. However, I’m really waiting to see the external transfer stats

Awesome statistics! What a jump from last year. I’m feeling very optimistic.

Well the guy at the orientation transfer session said that next year they will only be accepting around 250 students for internal transfer.

I don’t mean to sound pessimistic but there is a good reason why they changed that number. This is what I think why they are doing this.
First of all, they are requiring all 4 business indicator classes starting this year. Also the +/- GPA system will lower the mean GPA. Think about it, it is hard to get an A in classes like Cal 1 and 2. Even Eco classes are challenging to get an A in. Remember that A- is now only a 3.67. So all in all I am pretty sure the minimum GPA will still be a 3.6 next year. But just to be safe aim for a 4.0.

Here’s a tip - take calc 1 & 2 at community college!! (unless you are a math wiz and can ace it! :))

UT doesn’t care if you took it there or at ACC, just that you have the credits, then, those B’s won’t sully your gpa.

Many of my son’s friends that were liberal arts and now are business did this because the Calc classes (especially 2 if you got credit for 1 from the AP test) are notoriously difficult.

editting to add - this is if you want to transfer into business, not if you are an engineering major where you are going to be using calculus for future classes.

Is calculus at UT really that hard? If I got a 4 on the calc AB exam, is there still a good chance I’m going to struggle in 408K?

yeah i’m kind of nervous about how hard these calc classes are going to be. i need to get that high gpa!

I only know what my son has told me. He knows a number of kids who had gotten 4’s on the ap exam, but they ended up dropping Calc 2 at UT because they weren’t prepared for it. Luckily, my son saw it happen to others so he took it the next summer at HCC.

If math is your thing and you are really confident about it, then it shouldn’t be hard, if you really work at it and stay on top of things. But, since calc is only a requirement and not really used in business classes, like it would be in engineering, it doesn’t matter if you get the credits at UT or a CC.

My son didn’t want to chance getting a B or worse, since he was applying for the BBA/MPA program and gpa is a HUGE component of whether you get accepted or not. He also took the other econ (that he didn’t have ap credit for) at CC just to get it out of the way.

hey ag54, can you please respond to my other post on the thread “Major & Minor Flow ~ ~ ~”

since your son is in the MPA program you might be familiar with some stuff so maybe you can answer my question. thanks.

also if anyone else who knows more please respond
