McCombs vs IU Kelley for Management

I got into IU Kelley w/ Dean’s Scholarship and I also applied to McCombs and am awaiting on its decision.

If it comes to the choice where I have to decide between IU Kelley and UT Austin McCombs for Management, what would you guys prefer?

  • I want to go into management consulting and have the best chance of being recruited by big firms like McKinsey, Bain, etc.

@JHuff Hands down McCombs. Its top 10 business school and Management Consulting and I Banking are its top 2 fields.

I don’t know if it is as easy of a decision at @TinTintoo is making it out to be. Kelley has very good connections with all the big firms. IU was ranked the best business school by employers and are known for their “Kelley Connections” with very big businesses. My brother currently attends Kelley and loves it there, he wants to pursue finance/investment banking.

You can’t really go wrong with either one, but if money is a big factor in your decision, I would go to the cheaper school. This will probably be IU because of the $11,000 deans scholarship that you received. If money isn’t a big factor, I would say visit both schools and see which one you like better. IU is more of a college town, where as UT is in the middle of a growing city.

@Schmitty333 Just FYI… I am a father of a high school senior and spent number of years in Management Consulting with BCG and now recruit students for my business school (Carnegie Mellon Tepper). Trust me in recruiting circles no comparison. Hands down McCombs versus Kelley.

By the way… My son did not apply to Kelley. He applied and got admitted into Tepper (Carnegie) and McCombs (UT).

@TinTintoo While I’m sure you are probably more qualified to talk about this than I am, kelley has quietly become one of the best business schools in the nation. Bloomberg business week took a survey from many employers of business graduates and Kelley received the highest rating among employers. McCombs was second however. I’m just trying to say as of recent it isn’t as easy of a decision as you are making it out to be.

If it were me, I would probably attend McCombs just because of the face that that there are many companies right in Austin, TX which makes finding internships easier.
