mcdonald's internship

I have an offer from mcdonald's as for an IT internship at their corporate office..is it a decent internship for a sophomore?

Sounds good to me. I take it one of your perks would be free meals right?! hehe! Seriously, McDonald’s is a pretty legitimate multination corporation. Besides, a sophomore should be glad to get any internship, particularly in the current economic climate.

does anyone else feel hopeless like me? or is it a problem with my resume or cover letter? I have sent out resumes and cover letters to over 100 positions 2 weeks ago…(I SWEAR, more than 100)…and so far i only got 2 phone calls and 1 offer

In this economy, internships, particularly for underclassmen, will be hard to come by. Did you have the career office look over your resume?

yea i did…and they said it’s fine…oh btw…allstate just called me like half an hour ago, during class… i went outside and picked up…they asked if i have time for a preliminary phone interview…then proceed to start bombing me with ridiculously hard questions… needless to say i sucked coz i was completely unprepared…

That’s unprofessional of them…but then again, most students at your level would have bombed such an interview. Theywere probably more interested in your thought process than the accuracy of your answers.

WOOT WOOT I got an offer from D.E Shaw…

beast.

what division?

See Bearcats, I told you Michigan opens doors. Summer is 2 months away and you already secured a job with a leading PE firm. And you are a only a Sophomore right? Well done! If I recall, you felt that Michigan was inferior to Duke a year or two ago. Still feel the same way?

it was wharton and tepper… but isnt it late for an internship? coz some of my friends had internships like long ago…
oh and why did they ask me for my SAT scores??? was that really necessary?

Summer internship offers at schools like Michigan generally come around in February-March. Some are handed out in the Fall, but that isn’t common. Students at most universities don’t get summer internships until April or even May. That’s the beauty of elite universities…the internships come to you.

PE and IBanks often ak for the SAT. I think it is unfortunate, but it is one of the ways they wilt down their applicant pool.

haha actually it’s very fortunate… i have a high SAT score to boot (specially 800 math, which fits the quantitative requirement)

but why do i feel like d.e shaw has a wierd process compared to others? They actually required and called all 4 of my references and according to one of them they were on the phone with them for a good half hour? My friend who got an internship at GS told me they didnt even ask for reference??

Each company has its own recruitment process. GS interviews candidates to death…and then, they interview them some more! I had to go through 16 interviews with them before they finally gave me an offer.

the thing is…not that many sophomores can provide 5 professor/employer references…what are they thinking?

Good point bearcats. It is unreasonable to expect a Sophomore to come up with 5 professor/employer references. Two should suffice.

i actually had to turn in one that i knew through engin 100 project at a local company…coz really, for engineering, it’s hard to know professors at it is at lower level huge classes…besides the limited office hours

Don’t sweat it too much. They will understand if you resort or “creative” means to get those 5 references. You will be fine. And congrats on the internship. Given the current economic crisis, landing an internship with a financial institution is impressive.

Haha that’s a hell of a dig up

Well I’ve never taken the SAT (well an official one anyway, I did take the SAT for the Northwestern Talent Search a long time ago (sixth grade) though lol. Does this put me at a disadvantage when I search for internships? I have a solid ACT score though…

Woah…I didn’t notice that this topic was this old…
