McGill Decisions Class of 2021 (entering 2017)

I just heard I received a 4 year entrance scholarship! I heard about my Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Management acceptance in January. But I haven’t yet heard about Science or the interfaculty of Arts & Science. I hope they send the decisions soon.

I’m an international student outside the US/Canada,

Admitted (surprisingly with no conditions!) to the faculty of arts.
I plan to major politics (I’ll already finish a year of poli science by the time I start McGill) with a minor in French or anything else that might seem appealing.

I’m currently a first year student at a private college (I’m still considered as a first year applicant) so I had to send in some transcripts from there too… my current uni gpa is 89%.
*Admissions office told me they didn’t really care about my uni gpa tho…

My high school average was 94%.

Toefl scores (had a major anxiety attack when the exam started… so I sent a letter of extenuating circumstances) 19/28/29/28

Applied mid December received offer mid march, and that is due to some delays (I was further reviewed 3 times for different reasons - letter of extenuating circumstances, summary of activities and uni transcript)

They reviewed my file every month on the 8th and added missing documents every time.
Meaning:
Applied dec 5th
Submitted all files on dec 16th
Jan 8th - added a letter of extenuating circumstances
–was further reviewed on the feb 8th–
Feb 8th - summary of my activities
March 8th - uni transcript
At this point I was told it’d take another 3-5 weeks by the office!
March 13th - received my admissions offer!

I did not apply to any scholarships or aid, but I do plan on applying for some aid soon (it isn’t really crucial for me, were considered fairly rich in the region, but it would help my parents a lot considering we’re four college students- all in private expensive colleges - I’ll be the first public uni student!!..)

Literally all my relatives and friends pretty much “knew” I’d get in although I was so anxious (because of the toefl incident)…

My advice to you is stay clam as much as possible… you freaking out isn’t really helping anyone!

I don’t think I got an English condition (like a summer course) because:
A. We mainly use English in the family (most are in the U.S, Canada or South Africa…), and I go to an international school.
B. I pretty much owned my disability and wrote them a really convincing letter that I’d be more than happy to share its details with although it’s personal.

Sorry for the long post, I figured some of you guys might find the info useful!
Good luck to you all!

Thats wonderful @Eylond !
Congratulations

The major entrance scholarships will be announced a week or half after ur admission decisions are released.

Hey guys couple of questions…

  1. Is reviewed/decision pending bad/the equivalent of being deferred
  2. Is it possible for an IB student to get accepted definitively (like w/o conditional, I sent ACT and SAT scores as well)
  3. Could decisions really not come out until early May??

@samhall regarding your second question, I don’t know if this is true for all cases but I also submitted ACT and SAT scores that were very strong and I was still accepted with the condition that I get the IB diploma

@samhall All of the schools will change their minds if you do not graduate.

Canadian schools will only dump you after admitting you in the Spring if your average drops significantly or you drop 2 letter grades in core subjects. Later is very unlikely because if you have an A in the first semester and get a C in the second, you will typically average out to a B… Similar rules apply to drops in IB final grades when compared to IB predicted scores. It is only rational to expect any University to act this way.

BTW: European Universities will typically want to see your final diploma/scores before they offer admission. That is probably the right way to do things.

I need an advice : do I really need to send a letter of extenuating circumstances if I had 20 in a section instead of 21 ?

my scores are : 25/20/24/23 and the minimum for McGill is 21 at each section… what do you think? cause sending them a letter of extenuating circumstances because i took it only once and I was really sick that day is just gonna take me 7 to 10 days to get my request processed, and i’m supposed to be canadian (even tho i’m applying as an international student) so that really doesn’t help me getting scores like that for my case

i’m totally confused, seriously

I’m a UK student, my status finally changed to further review required today after being on ready for review for two months. On the checklist section a new item has appeared, “summary of activities” and they say they want a summary of what I did from September 2016 to December 2016. I’m on a gap year so I wasn’t in school. When I click upload it says “Were you registered in a college or university for the period in question? Please summarize your activities for the period”.

I haven’t attended any college and I didn’t really do anything specific from September to December, I travelled a little bit but nothing long-term. Apart from that I was just taking some time to try and sort out what I would be doing the rest of the year and afterwards, I didn’t have a job or anything either. Do they actually care what I did or are they just trying to make sure I didn’t attend any other university?

I’m not quite sure what they actually want - a list of everything I’ve done? Or proper written paragraphs? And I realise the deadline for submission of supporting documents is tomorrow so does this also have to be submitted by tomorrow? I’m going to call them tomorrow but wondered if anyone here might know.

Also, is there a way to view my actual application? I know the reason they’re asking for a summary of my activities is because I checked yes on the box which asked if I had been out of education for more than three months, but I can’t remember exactly what I said when it asked for more details.

@Ehhu Likely soon; Depends on the faculty you applied to and your grades, of course, but March is fairly typical for admissions. If you’re really on the border, you may have to wait until May; in which case you can email them if you don’t hear back by the end of March to inquire if you’ll hear back soon.

FYI McGill cancelled classes today for the first time since 1998 due to a 2 day blizzard.

@Eylond Congratulations!

Does anybody know the last potential date by which Mcgill should have released all the decisions? Thanks!

@clemeverst I called them yesterday they told me last potential date would be around the first week of june, especially if you’re an international student and you don’t have a really strong application

@TomSrOfBoston, I just left Montreal today; that blizzard was a doozy!

Guys, is McGill better than U of T for Mech. Eng. or is it the other way around?!?

@Ehhu Define “better”?

Which McGill residence hall is “best” for freshmen? Do they all/do any of them have gyms in-house?

@TomSrOfBoston , “better” is in the obvious sense of ranking in terms of education!

@Ehhu If rankings are all you care about look them up and make your decision.
