@TomSrOfBoston , what do u mean u don’t know or u have no idea of what I’m talking abt
@TomSrOfBoston , pls understand that if ranking were all that I care about it would be meaningless to post my 1st question, I want to know how u rank those!
@NYSFDC as some friends told me and as i checked every single video about all the mcgill residences on youtube, “New Rez” seems to be the “best” place for freshmen cuz it’s actually the biggest (800students, and the second biggest is like 300), but it also has everything u need like gym, kitchen every floor, single and double rooms with private bathrooms for each room and it’s also linked to a shopping mall underground which u can access with the elevator (from what i’ve heard)
actually the residences are like separated by categories, and those which seem to be the “best” (it really depends on your tastes and your criterias, really) are the 3 residences that are converted hotels (they’re actually real hotels but converted into college residences), which are New Rez, Sherbrooke and La citadelle (which is the most recent one)
la citadelle & sherbrooke have a capacity of 300 students aproximately
but obviously these are the most expensive ones out of every other residence (actually not that much compared to others cuz the price is for the whole year so the difference if just 2 thousand dollars max if i remember well)
I hope it helped you!
for me, i think i’ll apply for new rez if i ever get a positive decision, so i hope to see you there next year
hey, i applied to nursing and my application was decision pending for a long time. it chenged back to further review required and then back to decision pending. how about you? im nervous im gonna be wait listed!
@Ehhu U of T is typically considered strongest for engineering - that said, it’s also very hard to get into, and very competitive once you get there. McGill could be a nice alternative…student life might be nicer. And of course McGill is a great school all around.
is UT better for life sciences?
and how difficult is it to get into the UT life science program
@samhall U of T has been said to be the easiest to get into and the hardest to grad from out of the top 3 (incl. McGill and UBC). But also, I have yet to receive my admission to U of T, so we’ll see if that’s true!
@Lins99 I’m not sure about international applicants applying in countries other than the US, but in the US you have to commit by May 1. So do they make an effort to notify US students by May 1 or do some students get acceptances after the US college process is completed?
@Husky1,2 I think it’s the same, whether you apply from the US or any other international country. I applied from a school following the french educational system in Morocco and I have to commit by May 1st too. McGill’s admission process doesn’t work on a first come, first serve basis; they release their decision to top academic students first and then to those whose academic standing is nip and tuck (these ones get an answer much later). The difference you can see in the estimated dates of release betwen US countries and non-US ones is due to the fact that non-US applicants outnumber US ones and that the Uni waits for withdrawals to then fill the empty seats.
I’m an international and applied late December. My portal still says “Ready for Review”.
Any idea when I might hear?
@intstudent2021 - A few of us are in the same boat, do not fret! I called the admissions office to enquire about the “Ready for Review” status and what it entails; she informed me that ‘Ready for Review’ is an indication that admissions of the faculty you applied to hasn’t reviewed your case yet. Apparently Mcgill is experiencing double volumes of applicants this year, especially from the US, and the usual decisions and admissions process is delayed for some faculties and programs. For international students, admissions is purely rolling unlike Canadian high schools where there are specific rounds. According to the officer I spoke to, they hope most files will be looked at by End of March. As long as your status changes to ‘Under Review’, it will only be a few days then on. Keep a close eye on Minerva for any updates as they often require additional documents for international students… Good Luck!
Hey guys! Can you appeal the bursary? I got an amount that’s much lower than I expected. I’m a US student btw
@nuttyprofessor I applied to Nursing and since December my application has changed from Further Review Required to Ready for Review to Reviewed Decision Pending back to Further Review Required. All my checklist items are in and i do have a small difference in my application as i am graduating a year early by taking junior and senior year at the same time. I was just wondering with by the amount of times my status has changed, do you have any idea of what they might be thinking? Im super nervous bc i think im just in like a grey zone, like not good enough yet but not horrible compared to people already rejected. Opinions?
@Lins99 Thanks! I was actually thinking of calling them this weekend…I hope my decision comes out soon, I’ve been waiting since early october… Good luck!
@clemeverst Calling them on the weekend won’t help.
Accepted into Faculty of Science for Biochemistry!
International student from France, applied January 10th, further review required since end February
SAT:1500
SAT Subject test: Math 2 800, Bio M 800
@Theoddorre Congrats!! I have a friend who got in last week too, still waiting on mine
I’ve just been rejected from mcgill because of that one point at my toefl, even tho my score is 92 and they require 90, i had 20 in a section instead of 21… they said " rejected, language requirements not met" do u think there’s a way for me to make an appeal to that decision? cuz my twin sister has exactly the same grades than i do, just a little bit higher toefl score and she got admitted to both faculties she applied in and i got rejected to both i applied to… i just can’t express how bad I feel right now, so if anyone can help me that would be great
cuz If i don’t go to mcgill, i won’t go to canada at all and that would really suck not going to the same country than my twin even tho we have the same grades
by the way we’re both canadian taking the french baccalaureate outside france and canada
@bburke18, yeah, I’ve heard from many American students about fluctuating statuses (stati? hah.) on Minerva… I wouldn’t worry about it too much! Further review required usually means they need some additional documents to refine your application, that isn’t necessarily a bad sign, but is just usual protocol for international students as some of your courses, SAT scores, and statistics don’t translate well with the Canadian system, so they usually rely on further documents and review especially in the departments of nursing, dentistry and the faculty of science. Be sure to check your checklist to see if you have any outstanding documents and don’t worry, the admissions process at Mcgill is pretty standard.
@Lins99 - Send them a letter of extenuating circumstances! McGill has a pretty standard and robust cutoff when it comes to admissions averages and statistics, they rarely deviate from the benchmark. With that in mind, I have heard of a few cases where the TOEFL requirement was not met and special consideration was given! If you have a special circumstance, medical condition, situation that didn’t allow you to meet the requirement, I would send them an explanation of such. If not, I do believe that after Mid-March, rejected applicants can request for reconsideration. Either way, send them a letter explaining your sister’s commitment to McGill and her acceptance, and how the language standard is similar among the both of you. Best of Luck!!!
