I’m still on Ready for Review, applied on 22nd Dec. Does it mean that they haven’t even looked at my application yet?
@k_03 yes “Ready for Review” means they have not gotten around to look at your application
Does anyone know what date they release all the results? I mean for everyone even if its rejection
@pinkmee, unfortunately McGill’s admissions are purely rolling for both acceptances and rejections, there is no definitive date or time for the release of results. There is only a large range that is flexible and subject to the faculties and departments you applied to:
I’ve been stuck under “Reviewed- Decision Pending” for a few weeks now. I saw on the McGill website that I might not get a decision until mid may… I’m from the US and pretty much all US universities have a deposit deadline on May 1st. This means I might have to place a deposit at another school before I even hear back from McGill! Plus if I do get in, I need some time to go visit and solidify my decision to attend. Does anyone have any advice on what to do?
Same sitn here friend.better deposit and fix one college which i wil be doing have to wait for mcgill
Has anyone heard from them lately?
My teenager is a U.S. applicant and has not heard back. I called the admissions office today and received a laughably arrogant response when I expressed my concern that most U.S. colleges require an answer by May 1 but McGill admissions decisions can come as late as mid-May. “Sometimes one needs to make difficult choices in life,” the woman who answered the phone told me. (!) I had said “I’m sure you have encountered this problem before” (about the U.S. deadlines) and she replied unhelpfully: “It is not necessarily a problem.” I said, “Maybe not for you but for us it is.” So silly. I was surprised at this parochial attitude. If they are this much of a pain in the admissions office, it can’t be a good sign in terms of the rest of the university bureaucracy.
hey there everyone,
I got accepted to Faculty of Arts just this morning. Applied at the end of November, uploaded everything on the first week of December. Also, I uploaded my mid-term report about a month ago. My status has been, “Ready for Review” since December and it just changed today to “Admitted Pending Final Results”.
I’m an international student if it matters. Also, I’m an IB student and my predicted IB score was 40/42. I did not send any SAT scores. I sent in a TOEFL score of 97 and I also uploaded my Harvard University transcript that I got from Harvard Summer School I attended. That’s basically all.
I wish all of you the best!
I’m a transfer applicant. Wonder if anyone in here is the same. I’m still waiting for the decision. I applied around 1/20 for Engineering
@DowntownMom A very good friend’ son is there, and the attitude you got was the one she describes. He is a senior, but she said you just send them off and don’t ask any questions. Same for her student, the reply was basically, “figure it out,” unfortunately even when he had mono and couldn’t be seen for days. I guess in today’s college marketplace, for some schools, customer service isn’t required. I still love the kind, helpful ones. Mine has had the same Reviewed - Decision Pending status forever which tells me they are saying, “we will see if we find someone better than you and let you know later.” I think that says a lot. It would have been better to have no status change than that looming for several weeks. At some point the decisions are just too late and McGill is taken out of contention. But before that, they start losing mind share of the students as they become emotionally invested in other schools that have been accepted in and have begun researching housing, the town, other students, etc.
U Toronto and UBC on the other hand were very quick with the results and actively recruit those admitted, at least from our experience. That tells me mine should move on from McGill, which she basically has. Can’t imagine we keep it in play.
@CADREAMIN @DowntownMom Generally: Most of the big schools on both sides of the border show little care or personal attention; they have 10,000’s applications to process in a few weeks. All top schools show variable degrees of arrogance. They might even talk a good game and have good marketing programs but their motivation is pretty clear: find the best students with greatest ability to pay the tuition… and/or contribute to their endowments.
We are still in early admission time frame for top Canadian schools. Till mid-March, they were mostly accepting those that are clearly not close to their margins. The game is very different compared to US schools which typically do not offer rolling admission and thus, unleash all their decisions on a couple of days each year.
In my case, it took McGill a couple of days to accept me from the day they had all my numbers but it took UBC a couple of months. Calls to either place varied and there seems to be less knowledgeable and/or helpful people at both institutions. There are also a lot East vs. West differences. It also depends on the faculty within each Canadian institution because standards and even processes very so much between faculties at each university.
@CADREAMIN: Can I offer a reality check? When potential students get accepted early, most of them have the same view: “we will see if we find someone[school] better than you and let you know later” by your deadline…
Universities are looking for the best students to pay their (often overpriced) tuition… and/or who will continue to contribute to their endowments. Why should they offer “service”? The reality is that most Universities are only interested in moving up in the rankings by producing the most (sometime less than useful) research.
I am not trying to be a cynic but wanted to offer a different perspective. In my limited experience, all schools and faculties within them that have less than helpful personnel in various proportions.
Oh I totally get that. If my student was exactly what they wanted she would be in already so I am thinking she isn’t. But I can say I have 3 in college and the customer service they have always offered has been stellar so I do expect that. We are paying them, we are the customers. And they do get our donations because they provide that good service. If they didn’t, I would cut that optional funding off in a second. Good endowments are built on good customer service and a good product (the education). But even at prospective schools including busy crowded publics, I have always had positive encounters. What @downtownmom posted was either someone having a bad day, or needs to change jobs cause they can’t cut it in customer service. Either way, a poor representation of the school.
@CADREAMIN: AGREED!
My experience was rather different: McGill accepted in a couple days after all the numbers were submitted. UBC took closer to 2 months and slipped the promised date by weeks.
Luckily, I have a decent choice between two highly ranked Universities. But still waiting for the US schools…
@Braindrainer btw, funny sidenote - my D texted she was accepted. She applied to the French curriculum. She is also in UBC and UoT, but keeping opinions close to vest for now. Canada was everything for awhile there but not sure anymore as they all roll in. Congrats on ur acceptances!
Not all schools are a good fit for all kids and all families.
We have had wonderful interactions with admissions. They have been pretty up front about the university and the lack of handholding. For my S, that is a good fit. In the U.S., we had equally good discussions until it was time to talk about the financial aid offers. And that is when we figured out these schools weren’t a good fit for our family!
Keep in mind that the higher education landscape in Canada is quite different from the US, especially if you are comparing it to private US universities. Virtually all Canadian universities are public. 75% of McGill students are Canadian and pay US$3000 if from Quebec or US$6800 if out of province. The rest of the cost of running the school comes from a not so generous provincial grant and the international tuition premium. Canadian university admission and customer service is not market driven. You will not see an all out marketing production on admitted student days etc.
Also since there is no private university competition within Canada many of the bells and whistles that Americans expect, and then complain about how expensive they are, from a college are lacking.
@Braindrainer, all this time you’ve been posting, I’ve assumed you were a parent or university staff. You speak with great maturity and wisdom. Best of luck to you, wherever you end up.
@ShrimpBurrito You are not far off, my CDN father is a recovering academic…
