McGill Decisions Class of 2021 (entering 2017)

Is there anyone else who hasn’t heard back?

@yunakim123 I haven’t heard back from them and it annoys me because I already received decisions from other universities.

@yunakim123 Applied in October, RDP since mid January, still waiting!

Reviewed decn pendg for a month

I’ve been on “Ready for Review” for over 3 months now. What is happening?!?!

Is it that hard for them to just compare stats and numbers LOL

I’ve been on decision pending since I submitted my midyear grades. I didn’t get into any of the American universities I applied to (shocked) and McGill is my first (and only) choice… with waitlists on four colleges. Are you guys score on the edge? My Eng lit is 640 I think that’s what’s holding me back

Iam indian they asked for 12th preboards which maths is in 70s. Rest all in 90 11th 95% 10th&9th10cgpa with sat ph chem 780idk what is holding up.

I applied on January 15th, and I am still waiting for a response. Did I screw something up?

Ok so, I am starting to really consider McGill after the Ivy Day massacre. Is there anybody who can tell me in which language the student talk at McGill? I know that the teaching is done in English, but there’s a lot of French-speaking students there.

@Theoddorre, actually, McGill admits a lot of American students, internationals, and the best across Canada, so the French speaking population totals up to no more than 15% who are fluent. Montreal, the city, houses a large anglophone population, with 90% of the city speaking French and 70% with good proficiency in English. The McGill bubble itself is entirely English dominated, unless you intend on really immersing yourself and interacting in the city, you’ll find yourself needing no more than a kind “Bonjour”.

I’ve been in “Reviewed - Decision Pending” since early January now (almost three months). Does anyone know how much longer until a decision? I have all my U.S. acceptances now and need to make a decision soon (May 1st) at the very latest. Am I in waitlist status?

@Theoddorre As nuttyprofessor said Montreal is a bilingual city with about 400,000 Anglophone (English mother tongue) residents. English is the dominant language from downtown to the western tip of the island.

About 20% of McGill students are francophone including over 1000 students from France.

If it helps…I’m a father originally from Western PA who does NOT have an ear for languages. On several trips to Montreal to look at McGill with my S and for some work trips, I have never run into a language barrier. Folks in Montreal are just really nice.

Technically if you are on waitlist status Mcgill is supposed to change your status to “waitlisted.” I don’t want to assume I’m de facto waitlisted because I really need to get into Mcgill… I also have been waiting since November 30th, uploaded mid year grades in February and have not heard back yet

1440 SAT
780 Biology M
720 Math 1
4.1 Weighted GPA grades 10-12
Got accepted to arts within 18 hours of uploading mid years back in February.
Still on “Reviewed - Decision Pending” for Interfaculty and Faculty of Science and in super annoyed. I’m going up there next Friday for an admitted student event and I better know from the other two options by then.

Also I’m pretty sure getting decision pending just means you were closer to the cutoffs and that they are just making sure there’s no superstars they need to make room for before they admit you. I was told that if you are above the cutoffs even a little bit that you have a 90+% chance of admission.

does any intl students here get admitted to the faculty of science or engineering yet? i’m so nervous guys… submitted all necessary documents since january and still “ready for review” :frowning: if i miss any documents they must notify me right?

A factor this year is the large increase in international applications: 25% more from the US and an even larger increase from overseas applicants. They are not sure what the yield will be. For some applying was a knee jerk reaction to the US election and the applicants will not end up choosing McGill so they are being cautious waiting for deposits to come in.

I got rejected since I didn’t meet the academic standard, and when I called, the woman referenced a B+ in an honors math course and a B in an honors science course. She said McGill doesn’t take into account honors/APs, which largely works against me. Is it worth it to appeal and mention the disparity between CP and honors/AP classes at my school?
