Congratulations, Geddin. If you decide on McGill, it will be a different world than Tennessee. My d. is a year-zero ( first year ) student from the US and absolutely loves the school and esp. Montreal. We just rented her a small apartment for next year, right in the heart of the McGill ghetto, one block from campus. The slogan of the apartment house is "If you lived any closer to McGill, you would be sleeping in class." Just a warning, it does take quite a while to get mail from Canada- but if I remember rightly, some of the acceptance stuff is mailed from Buffalo, NY to save time. I do advise you, if you choose McGill to get your immigration stuff done early as you will need 1) a US passport 2)Quebec immigration papers, the dreaded CAQ, and 3) Canadian immigration documents and student visa. A booklet from McGill will walk you thru the requirements step-by-step. (But dont delay).

I just got a decision today (like 5 minutes ago, I screamed and woke up the house)- accepted pending final results in both Science and Arts!

shanamana, that's great - was your notification the same as Geddin's???

It was pretty much the same, except my status had changed to further review required a couple of weeks ago. They got my midyear report yesterday too, so I'm guessing that for a lot of people, you'll hear back really soon after they get your midyear report.

i also have been admitted pending final results....can someone please confirm to me that "pending final results" simply means that the only way i can screw this up is to fail to graduate hs?

DS checked his status and his midyear grades are now listed as having arrived 2/10/06 , but it still says "further review required". Sigh...

No.....you could still pass HS and not be allowed to enroll - for example, say you kill five people and get D's in all of your classes but the judge allows you to go to school under guard so you still graduate. You get convicted but the judge sentences you to 1hr community service as a punishment because your lawyer is a hypnotic argument before sentencing. McGill may review your app and may decide that you may not enroll. Get the idea? This is the case at most schools I think - you cannot let your grades suddenly drop off. This might be even more important at a school like McGill that takes senior year grades with great importance. If you were an A-B with a few scattered C's student and you suddenly get D- in every class then things would likely be reviewed.

congrats btw :D

S. Op: Just a word of advice- if you have to mail something to Canada, it takes a long time using regular mail- about one week from here in Vermont to Montreal. The Canadian Post Office does not work on the weekends- not even moving mail between the border and distribution points. We send anything that has to get there priority mail- it costs a little more, but gets there in two or three days. I know you are anxious to get all the info in for your application.

This is so true....since I wasn't paying for the mailing the transcript(s) they were sent standard snail mail on Feb 1. I'm hoping that they will arrive sometime early this week. (I am starting to regret not having them faxed). These were both sent from institutions far away from me so I really did not have much control of how they were sent. Ah well, I guess I have to wait.

They don't allow important things faxed (such as transcripts). (I tried to, but they wouldn't allow it.)

Spikemom: As much as I love McGill and Quebec, nothing (repeat nothing) gets done on weekends or holidays. Those are taken very seriously, so info arriving on a Friday means it will not be even considered until the next week. Don't worry- it will work out.

thanks for your words of encouragement mcgilldad. DS's school overnighted the midterm grades so at least they got up there quickly.

Guidance faxed my son's midyear reports, will that help? Or will they need the official mailed transcript?

I believe that someone earlier in this thread mentioned that they will not accept faxed transcripts (I myself have not seen that mentioned on the site) - if it was faxed I'd check minerva tomorrow and see if anything has changed...if not mailing a copy would be a wise idea. They might be more willing to accept a faxed copy if your guidance office calls but I wouldn't count on that.

I also got a notification today saying "Admitted: Pending Final Results".. I applied for International Management...

What does that mean...?

Jazzy J, it means that you are admitted! congratulations! the "pending final results" bit is just in case you fail all your classes second semester or anything like that.

oh really? lol thats awesome! i didnt know when i read that to feel happy or not...i was kinda confused...wow thats weird thanks!

oh yeah i didn't get the scholarship though... =/

i live in cali right now but grew up in Montreal and around Canada...i LOVE Montreal it is THE best!!

Hey guys!

My application status says "Offer of admission accepted", so does that mean I'm in? The requirements still list that they need my final grades, so I'm not sure if this is a conditional requirement? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also, how soon will I be able to apply for housing?

Thanks!

today DS's Minerva status has changed - now says "Reviewed - Decision Pending" - anyone have any idea what this means -

Mellissay: I assume you clicked on the accept button when you saw the "admitted pending final results". They always ask for the final grades- just dont get too much senioritis and you will be all set. The housing deadline will be on minerva- housing is by a lottery- you need to rank every choice from 1-16. Congratulations, well done.

Spikemom- See http://www.is.mcgill.ca/whelp/sis_help/app_status.htm
for a discussion of what these cryptic notations mean.
Hopefully, a decision will be reached soon.

thanks mcgilldad for that link - I wonder if this means, you're rejected and we'll send it in a letter instead of putting it online.....? The McGill link says Canadian students will receive decisions by mid-May.....of course DS can't wait that long, he has some acceptances, will have more by 4/1, and will have to decide by then.
