<p>Mine is still “ready for review” as well - I sent mine in early September.</p>
<p>Does any one have an idea how the go through apps? Is it in the order that they receive them? Or do they do the highest achievers first? Or is it random?</p>
<p>Mine still says Ready for Review, but I haven’t sent my mid year report yet. Hopefully it changes to something like Items Outstanding, or Decision pending after I send it.</p>
<p>@oscarUK you appear to be on every McGill forum I’ve been on!
thanks, that means I can wait to hear from unis in the UK before having to make a decision about McGill (if I get accepted (fingers crossed!)) :)</p>
<p>I read somewhere May 1st, but residence options come out in February, so if you want to live in a popular dorm, time is a bit restricted (which is miserable for me too, because I have to wait until April to hear back from the US)</p>
<p>@steibca I think it’s a bit different at McGill, they do residences on a lottery, so you rank them in your favourite order, then they assign you a random lottery number so the lower your number the higher the chance of you getting your prefered dorm. Though scholarship students get either their first or second choice. The worst bit is that you have to pay a $1500 deposit to reserve your dorm in June, which I find a bit steep :s I’m reaaally gonna have to save since it has to be paid before financial aid comes in in September! Is the deposit that expensive in the states usually?</p>
<p>that’s correct; it makes no difference what time you apply for rez: everyone (except scholarship people) gets the same chance whether you apply on the first or last day.</p>
<p>n.b. : I’m on the forums because a lot of people helped me out a lot last year with questions and I know how much of a big help it was for me. So having done all that now I think it’s only right to offer what help I can to others in the same position as I was.</p>
<p>@oscarUK
yeahh I thought so, just thought I’d clarify
Ahh that makes sense, I totally agree, forums have helped me so much with applications etc!</p>

Oh really, I thought it was a first come, first serve system. Well I guess that shows how much I know about McGill then. I have two residence options that I like best, so hopefully I can get into one of them if I choose McGill.
I guess $1500 is a bit steep, but I have no idea how much it is anywhere else, so I can’t compare. I only know that McGill is SO cheap compared to all the US schools I’ve apllied to- tuition at Mcgill is $2000 for me, while it’s over $42000 at Duke (not including rooms and food).</p>
<p>@steibca
I’m in the same position with regards to choices - I reaaaally don’t want a meal plan so I only have 3 options really, preferably I’d like to stay in one of the MORE houses.
Tuition is cheap at McGill for me too compared to the UK - especially since for 2012 the government have allowed universities to charge up to £9000 instead of the previous £3375 (or something near that - it goes up with inflation every year), so here I’d be paying near around $12000, although the way student loans work, you don’t usually pay all of it back because you pay so little every month and only after you start earning £21000 (~$30000) per year.
I think that the only reason I think $1500 is a lot is because it has to be paid BEFORE you received any sort of financial aid, that’s the main worry for me.</p>
<p>My status just changed this morning from “Ready for Review” to “Further Review Required.” Ugh. My mid-year report won’t be available until the end of this week, at the earliest, so guess I have a bit longer to wait. :-(</p>
<p>@LauraF123 Why don’t you want a meal plan? You’ll be cooking for the rest of your life; may as well enjoy the connivence of food cooked for you for a year, especially first year while you’re still getting settled in somewhere new. That was my thinking anyway
I want either Douglas or any of Upper rez.</p>
<p>@oscarUK
I just really want to cook for myself really, and so I know exactly how much I’m spending on food. all the universities I’ve applied to in the UK I’d want to go self-catered too. my brother and sister are both self-catered at uni and have said it’s really useful. I enjoy cooking too
but it wouldn’t be the end of the world if I ended up in one of the other residences with a meal plan, I’m sure I’d enjoy it either way.</p>
<p>@OscarUK
I applied at imperial, oxford (rejection from both, if I applied again I’d pick more sensible choices!) Newcastle and Leeds. those 4 are for medicine, then my fifth choice was aberdeen for maths for which I have an offer.
well I’m half Canadian and was born in Montreal, both my parents to McGill and I loved it when I visited. I hope to major In maths and do the pre-med pre-requisites.
how about you ?</p>
