McGill!!

I am applying to the Business school which i heard is a little easier to get into

ok, for an unweighted GPA that is good :) your test scores are a bit low, which is why they probably wanted the semester grades. You have an A average throughout highschool, which is very good. I can't say for certain what the outcome will be but your sending in senior year grades should only serve to strengthen your application.

best of luck!
Noelle

LAst question,
They say the release date is March 18, do you think I will find out then or will they want me to keep up my A- effort through second semester.
Thanks
Arieh

My guess is that as long as they recieve your scores by March 18 and review them, they will issue a decision then. However they will give you an answer as soon as they recieve your midyear grades and have a chance to look at them :)

just got an email from mcgill asking for mid year reports...

these courier charges are killing me:(

Hi.
Yea, just another person concerned about whether they are going to get into mcgill or not. It's my number 1 choice...mm. All right. Let me put my stats and you can let me know, hopefully. :)

I'm applying as a transfer student from a community college in connecticut (12th out of 1100 in the usa). Ive got a 3.69 GPA in Engineering Science. I've applied both to Chem Engineering and Finance. ( I want to do Finance now after taking Chem II. haha)

Anyway,
Sat I: 1310.. 660 math 650 writing
SAT IIS: Chemistry 690, Math IIC 640, ... but.. writing 540 (no idea what happened there)

I already sent them, but I really didint need to as I was not educated in an american system. I went to a foreign school in italy based on the ontario curriculum. I was on the above 80 average list for my two years there. Most of my courses were above 80 though Calc and Discret geometry were both exactly 80.

Hmm.. Im going to send my resume.. I am the director of a humaniterian project called euphoric youth and I have done various types of humanitarian activities. I'm well travelled, speak 3 languages, have begun day trading foreign currencies. Hm.

I don't know what else. My HS didnt have GPA but I won a medal for the highest science average in my graduating class.

Honestly, the only thing that doesnt match up for me is the fact that I have that low writing score and MAYBE that I am coming from a community college ( even though it is in the top 1% of the nation).

Last semester I got an A in my college coposition class, an A- in Calc I, an A in intermediate italian, an A in college forum, and a B ( :( ) in General Chemistry.

All right, yea, so thats everything that I'm sending to McGill. Currently I'm enrolled in Statistics, Calc II, Gen Chem II and Intro to Programming. I'm also taking Italian classes at a nearby Berlitz.

Ive only applied to two schools for transfer and I keep trying to convince myself that I will get in, but as I said, my writing score was low- below the minimum cut off grades.

I'd say that I have a good chance but that my foot isnt in the door fully yet.

Also, if I do get denied, I read that they have reconsideration applications. Has anyone had experience/success with those? I'd be willing to interview with the dean to get in. haha.

Has any had experience with transfer applications? What was your GPA?

Ok, thanks for any input.

Marc :)

how do you go about trading in currencies? is at its base, taking currencies, like the american dollar, trading it in for canadian dollars when the exchange rate is good, and then when the american dollar pales in comparison, trading back?

Haha.. yes, in a way.

www.fxcm.com

I do what you laid out except I work with thousandths and 200:1 margins.

For instance, with a 200:1 margin, I can "buy" 10,000 EUR/USD for 50 USD; the bulk (200) of it coming from the bank. If it currently trades at 1.300 and goes up, ie the EUR gets stronger to the USD, to the point of 1.3020, then I have made a "20-pip" profit. It went up in my direction.

I then close my position and have made 0.0020 * 10 000 = 20 USD profit.

Sure, that isn't too much, but a 20 pip swing in an hour or even 15 minutes is a very common thing. Also, 10 000 is a mini account. I am just testing out how well I can do before I play with larger sums. Currerntly each pip movement in my direction is 1 dollar profit; with a normal account it is 10.

I hope that clarifies some. :)

cool beans, how much do you have to committ to do this, and more importantly, how much have you lost?

You need 300 USD to open a mini account. Says that on the site.

I've had my ups and down, but currently I'm at 440USD about.

Any opinions on my application to McGill? :)

your probably definatly in, but what was your high school gpa like

I didnt have a GPA in HS.
I had an average of like 84 or something in my last year on the Ontario system, which I hear would be an A- to an A.

I listed some of my last grades up there.
I guess it's just a waiting game now ...

Think you're going to try the foreign exchange trading?
I only wanted to get a head start on it so that by the time I graduated I would be very proficient in the working of the markets. Always good to be able to make money with money.

yup...I suspect it's gotten kind of slow because it's waiting season now...please everyone be sure to post if you got in or not, once you recieve decisions :) and then if you get in, whether or not you decide to attend.

Well I cheked minerva and once again my application is up for reveiw meaning they got my semester report card. Any thoughts on how long I will be told my admision on minerva (dont say march 18 cuz i think other people have already heard)

chances are, that the people who heard already are international meaning outside of the us and canada, and mine says march 18 and im from ny, from what it seems, most who post here will probably instantly accept admission

Im just waiting for them to get everything. Pretty confident that Ill get in though. :)

my application status changed to them wanting my senior reports... which are the best grades ive ever gotten.. is that a good sign or is it normal for them to do so????

I think it's good cause senioritis has kicked in like 100% so it's tougher to keep up ur grades. that could just be me

my gpa before: 3.46
senior semester gpa: 4.24
overall (SOMEHOW!!): 3.56!!!!!!!!! i worked so hard this year!!!

Still waiting for my decision, and worrying if I'll get in or not.
