McIntire Transfer

I'm a student at NOVA CC that will be completing the guaranteed agreement with a 3.4 GPA. I want to transfer into McIntire, as this is my last chance to do so but acceptance won't be guaranteed. Should I take a chance and apply directly to McIntire or be guaranteed into CLAS?

If anyone has successfully transferred into McIntire from a CC please post some of your stats.

The average transfer GPA into McIntire is around a 3.8 and about 70% of transfers are from VA CCs… If you really want to be at UVA, I would take the guaranteed transfer. If you want to study business in general and wouldn’t mind being at VT (or wherever you want to be that isn’t UVA), go for McIntire.

Also note that you can apply to McIntire after spending a semester at UVa (it would just mean you’d have to spend 3, not 2, years here)

Systems, are you sure? I’ve never heard of this being possible before. Do you have any links about this?

I haven’t heard of that being possible. It would surprise me.

From the McIntire admissions FAQ (http://www.commerce.virginia.edu/admissions/undergraduate/Pages/FAQ.aspx):

“Thus, UVA students are eligible to apply during their second year for enrollment in the following fall semester. First-year students may apply if they have completed all requirements before enrollment; however, it is strongly discouraged and extremely rare that a student be admitted after only one year of full-time college-level coursework. Also, third-year students may apply but should realize they must complete a five-year baccalaureate program.”

So you could go to UVa, then apply to Mcintire, and start that program as a fourth year.

EDIT: I just tried to do the internal transfer application, and it started up my application and automatically filled my year in as a fourth year, so you can definitely apply as a non-second year.

I emailed Ms. Fields at McIntire and she said they don’t accept any fourth years. “Our program is a full-two year curriculum and we do not offer admission to fourth-year students.”

I actually know of a recent student denied admission after his second year but then allowed to enroll after his third year. He completed the two year program in his fourth and fifth years at UVa. This may have been a special circumstance, though.

Actually I received another email, apparently it is possible but extremely rare. It really makes me question whether the BS or MS in commerce is better.
