McIntire

Is it possible to apply to McIntire 2nd semester freshman year if you have enough credits and have met all of the prerequisite requirements? If it is, will the admissions committee need to also consider your high school transcript in addition to two semesters of uva work?

anyone have any idea?
thanks

yes [FAQ - McIntire School of Commerce Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.commerce.virginia.edu/admissions/faq.asp)

they already consider your sat so i dunno if they need your hs transcript too.

Yes it’s possible, but it’s really hard to get in that way. I think all of the first years I heard applying were deferred, just so the admissions committee can see another semester of grades. In my personal opinion, I doubt they consider the high school transcript. High school is so easy compared to college, and high schools are just so different in caliber that there’s no real comparison.

i know that the mcintire admissions rate is about 70%-
does that mean that mcintire is relatively easy to get into and you only get rejected if you have a really bad gpa and almost no extracurricular activities?

Admit rates for McIntire:

2008 - 62%
2007 - 71%
2006 - 67%
2005 - 68%
2004 - 76%

^ Rates were still 60%+? I was just about to write a post that lamented the large numbers of people getting rejected. It seems that half the people I know got deferred or rejected.

Cheers from the UVA student blog.

Thank you for your replies! I find it odd that the committee would even consider admissions components from high school like the SAT. I suppose we will all find out more about this when we get there-- or during summer orientation (i cant wait!!!).

I just googled and pulled those off their website. I was surprised, too.

Well, isn’t the group already a bit self-selecting? It is not particularly easy to get into UVA in the first place, and everybody applying to McIntire has already met that benchmark. 60% seems reasonable…if it were much less I would be nervous.

Huh. Interesting. I wonder where they’re getting their numbers from since a significant amount of students are still deferred until May.

Cheers from the UVa student blog.

Wonder if rates are down for 2009? Also, if the number of total applicants to UVA are up a bit every year, but McIntire doesn’t change its number of admits, seems like the chances for getting into McIntire will continue to go down a bit each year…

Can students who don’t get into mcIntire take graduate courses at Darden while still an undergrad?

I think they had 521 applicants (an increase from 499 last year) and accepted 312. Their yield is , of course, very high (96-97%). For those that are not accepted, there is a minor in Leadership that includes McIntire Classes, and a five year Masters in Commerce, as well as majoring in economics, etc.

You can see [the raw data for McIntire admission on their website](http://www.commerce.virginia.edu/admissions/current.asp). Soccer has a good point…perhaps many students opt out of the process if they don’t feel as though they have a compelling application.

Anyone else in this position?
Waitlisted at UVA but yet got into Wharton, Notre Dame, Georgetown, and other business programs. I really wanted UVA so I kept myself on the list. When I called UVA, I was told 4500 on that said list. I am OOS. My guidance counselor thinks it was Tufts Syndrome. Anyone else like me out there?

[We don’t practice yield protection](Notes from Peabody: The UVA Application Process: Yield Protection).

4500 are not on the list. Everyone offered a spot has until May 1 to put their names on the waitlist. It is usually around 2000 students, broken up between in state and OOS as well as the four different schools.

[Notes from Peabody: The UVA Application Process: Waitlist FAQs](Notes from Peabody: The UVA Application Process: Waitlist FAQs)

Meaning that they waitlisted 4500. Going by the numbers taken off the list in years gone by, the chances are quite slim getting off it.

I don’t believe it’s possible to take grad school classes at Darden if you’re not in the comm school. I’m going to be a fourth year in the comm school, and even then all my classes are at the graduate level for the McIntire school. Darden and McIntire are pretty much separate.
