First one said: "While you have not been named a McNair Scholar Finlaist, we are considering you for other University scholarships." ......

Second letter said:" Congratulations! You have been selected as a recipient of a McKissick Scholars Award worth $2000 per year for a total of $8000 over four years of study"........

"In addition to the scholarship award you will receive a tuition reduction to the in-state rate. At the 2005-2006 tuition levels this makes the total value of your award approximately $55,000 over four years of study. Tuition for the 2006-2007 academic year will be established by the Board of Trustees in the summer."

EAmom and I were not home when she got the news, she called us in tears because she was so excited!

Congrats.....EA Dad and EA Mom....Our D just received the same letter today. She is out and will be returning home in about 30 minutes....we can't wait for her reaction. Our D signed a National Letter of Intent to Swim for USC in November so this is the icing on the cake!

I haven't been on CC for quit some time.....so it was so nice to see USC is active.....

I am looking forward to the Scholars Day on March 25. My D visited USC on an official recruiting trip in October and had the most positive experience. She was recruited by over 50 schools for swimming/academics, but fell in love with USC. She will be so excited to visit again and meet her future classmates.

Eadad and Birdie, Way to go! Fantastic scholarships and great school! Several of our Son's friends competed for USC scholarship. If you come across a web site with all the names, please pass it on, we'd like to see how everyone did.

OMG....DD got the a McKissick Scholarship...$2000 per year with the instate tuition reduction. We are totally stunned!! This will certainly make her college decision a different one than we thought it would be.

Thumper1, I am so happy for your family! You have been so gracious on these boards always congratulating everyone on their good news. USC has shown that they value academic achievement and all your daughter's hard work. Congratulations to you and your D!

Not sure about Scholars Day but if it's like "Explore Carolina" at UNC they hold a number of admitted student days but reserve two of the sessions for students they are offering significant merit money to and that they really want to attend. For lack of a better description, they roll out the red carpet. Campus tours, classroom visits, breakout sessions that deal with specific interests etc for the kids and sessions for the parents to sell them on the school. In the evening was a dinner in the Chancellor's suite at Kenan stadium with food and entertainment. It's a great way to meet potential classmates and do some early bonding.

At UNC we met some folks with a son who had very similar background and interests to our S, they never caught up with each other there, but after both accepted they started talking online and decided to room with each other and have been roommates for two years, pledged the same fraternity etc. Plus we have made a great friendship with his parents who are really incredible folks!

We are planning to attend. If you are, perhaps we can meet up and introduce the girls.

Hm....where is the info about this scholars day? I didn't read the whole contents of the envelope...just the letter (and I felt guilty about doing that!!). DD has a music commitment on the 25th of March. I'm hoping there is another time we can revisit USC with her in March.

The Post Script in the letter stated....Scholar's Day will be held on Saturday, March 25th. This is a day long on campus program for scholarship recipients. You should recieve an invitation along with detailed information in a few days. Hope this helps.....

I was just wondering how many scholarships are offered....does anyone know?

Ugh...our All State Music festival is on March 25....DD will have to find another time to go to USC...I think we'll just plan a long weekend and go.

thumper1....I am sure that many of the candidates are in the same type of position. Once I return I will be happy to share our experience with you. Have a great time a the All State Music festival.

DD would like to go to USC for a visit...just not the same day as All State. She is going to call the scholarship person listed on the letter and explain why she is unavailable for the scholars day and see what she can arrange for another weekend. At least we have been to the campus already....however it would be nice to go to the "wine and dine" event.

If my D received the McKissick scholly does that mean she will be asked to join Capstone as well? She really feels that in a school this large it would be a plus.

Well, hopefully we hear soon. SC is high on her list and I think Capstone would clinch it. I will be glad when the decisions are made and she can just enjoy her last few months of high school.

Congrats to all!!
Just returned from the McNair weekend. Im very favorable impressed with all administrators and faculty we met over the three days and boy did we meet alot of them!!!Admissions staff extremely helpful and welcome all contact. You all will hear about honors/Capstone shortly, they said all the letters were going out this coming week.Departmental scholarships follow by the middle of March but everyone emphasized contacting departments to see if any $$ was available and if there was an application process involved.

We just returned from vacation and in the mail was the letter informing my daughter she received the McKissick Scholarship. Of course my husband was thrilled at the possibility of saving $55,000. I hope she will be offered something by one of the other schools she was accepted to.
