Mech Eng - Hong Kong (HKUST) vs USA vs Germany

I just got my acceptance from HKUST with conditional scholarship 50 -100% tuition as per CBSE final results

I have applied to various colleges in USA & Germany for which admission decisions are expected in due course. I like to have your considered view of comparative assessment for following options, which I expect to get selected for:

  1. HKUST (QS 20, Cost per year USD 10-18K basis expected scholarship as per final CBSE results)
  2. Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany (QS 51-100, Cost USD 30k), English language program with small class size of only 30-40 students, strong industry linkage)
  3. Georgia Tech (QS 11, Cost USD 45k)
  4. U.T. Austin (QS 50, Cost USD 55k)
  5. Ohio State Univ (QS 51-100, Cost USD 35k) (with expected scholarship about USD 4-6k per year)
  6. Lesser ranked Univs in USA like UT Dallas, SUNY Buffalo with good scholarships

My career interest is Design & Development.
Study Plan:
UG Mechanical Engineering
PG aim for Stanford or similar.

Budget:
USD 20k - comfortable
USD 20-30k - Can Manage

USD 30k - stress & struggle

[/QUOTE]

Out of your choices, it looks like only HKUST is definitely within your financial comfort zone, while all of the others are either at the edge of or well into the “stress & struggle” zone. So that would appear to be the obvious choice.

Yes you are right. HKUST fits perfect in finances and rankings

Germany is within “Manage” zone - though QS ranking lower than HUKST - benefit of German precision and small class size of 30-40

US falls in “Stress” Zone

so the question if these are so much better/worth as compared to HKUST

Also - if the choices were to be between likes of UT Dallas / SUNY Buffalo / U Mass Amherst with good scholarship to bring finances in a comfort zone in one hand and HKUST on other - how would one assess them

“Stress & struggle” financially is generally a bad deal and undesirable. Out of your current choices, HKUST is the only reasonable one.

If some other university comes in with a net price within your financial comfort zone, then you have to consider your preferences as to how the curriculum in structured and the general environment at and around the school. Also, if you are an international student, consider how each school is perceived in your country of citizenship or residency, in terms of effect on employment.

I would choose G tech…or U Mass Amherst.
Their starting per month Engg salaries would pay for your 2 years of education. I would look at the long run…

Did you get into the Honors College at any of these?
What’s the exact cost of UMass Amherst, SUNY Buffalo, and UT Dallas for you?

Hi I have the same question . I have got HKUST as well as Umass Amherst _ honors course with a 12 K scholarship , Cost of HKUST is 22 KUSD and Umass is 28 KUSD - both within reach . Wanted to do my PG in the US . Please advise

How long did KIT take to respond to your application?
