My eligibility index is 4120. I saw that for 2015, SJ State says min EI for ME is 3800. Do I have a shot? I live in CA about 1.5hrs north of SJ.
I am not wild about the locations of other CSUs that have mech engineering…
Thoughts?
I want to add SSU is about 20 mins from me but they don’t have ME, otherwise I would go there.
You are well above the SJSU EI threshold from last year, so you have a solid chance. Just remember these EI thresholds do fluctuate year to year dependent upon the competitiveness of each year’s in-coming class.
I would think that there would be more than 1 campus you would find acceptable for ME. How far from home are you interested in going? Cal State Long Beach, Cal Poly Pomona and SDSU have very good programs if you want to venture to the South. Here is the list:

I am not all that interested in living in SoCal. Maybe SDSU but I have heard I don’t stand a chance getting in there.
Maybe Chico?
If you’ve calculated your EI correctly, you stand a very good shot at SDSU. If you aren’t otherwise interested in So Cal, that narrows it down. Chico and San Jose are both solid options that offer very different learning environments. Campus tours will help sort that out.
Sac is also worth a look.
Apply broadly, then make your decision in the spring.
You do have a chance at SDSU with your EI so worth an application. As @NCalRent stated, apply to several schools since Engineering is usually impacted and competitive. Better to have more choices come Spring.
Good Luck.
Have you thought about Cal Poly SLO? We are a really great engineering school. Fantastic program and not too far from where you are.
I would love to go to SLO, but I am not sure my stats get me in.
My EI is 4180
GPA 3.8 W 3.71 UW
SAT 1280/1600
ACT 26
I have been thinking I should reconsider a school in SoCal.
@TadCooper98, it is worth an application but with 15% or less acceptance rate for ME along with your stats below the averages (CP GPA of 4.17 SAT: 1450 and ACT: 33) it could be one of your Reach schools.
I think I’ll save the $55 app fee …
It’s just crazy to me that I am practically an A student and I can’t get in.
when it comes to college - the $55 ap fee is mere drop in the bucket.
