I was wondering where I could find data about med. school's accepted students. I am pretty sure the "top" medical schools accept many students every year from not "top" undergrad schools. Is there any list like this published, and what would it be called. Thanks.

No, you wont find published data/list of that stuff.

You can try [MDapplicants.com - Home](http://mdapplicants.com/) and customize your search criteria. However, not every profile is truthful.

FSU puts their med student profiles online: [College of Medicne Students](http://med.fsu.edu/students/composite/default.aspx?class=2012) There could be other, but haven’t seen any.

You’re unlikely to find such data, but you are correct that people get into “top” schools from all over.

Even if you did find such lists, I think it’s unfortunate that it would likely present a skewed picture any ways.

I firmly believe that where you go to undergrad, provided you have the right grades/mcat/research, doesn’t matter, yet you’ll still find a disproportionate representation of ‘top’ schools. It may be slight - depending on the school, but it’s there. This is not because (at least in my estimation) the particular undergrad schools are quote/unquote “better” but because of a number of confounding factors - including things like personal preference for “name” schools, peer pressure from college friends and classmates, location ties (if you attend Penn for UG aren’t you more likely to apply to Penn for med school?) and the simple fact that the skills needed to get into a highly regarded UG (intelligence, hard work, time management, test taking ability, etc) translate to med school admissions…but beyond the UG school serving as sort of a pre-screening step, there’s not a lot that the UG institution does.

i hope bigredmed is right. i turned down penn to go to my basically unheard of nonflagship state school

ut san antonio has a list, but i guess noone really considers it a top medical school

I think you’ve misread what I’ve written. There’s an overrepresentation in those schools because there’s an overrepresentation of top UG’s in their applicant pool.

For example, I have a good friend from my state flagship UG (her little brother is in my fraternity) who is currently at Dartmouth’s med school. I’m 100% sure that in the entire time she’s been there, she’s the only person from our school enrolled (ie there haven’t ever been two people from our school there at the same time even if they’re in different class years). But I’m also 100% sure there lots of Dartmouth UG’s in the Dartmouth med school…why would that be? Is it because Dartmouth’s Adcom takes one look at my state public alma mater and says “no way” or because in any given year, there are a 1 or 2 dozen Dartmouth undergrads applying and maybe one every 6 or 7 years from my school?

Take it the other way - there’s no one (that I’m aware of) who has their degree from Duke who is currently enrolled at my state public medical school. Is that because my school thinks Duke is awful and people who graduate from there aren’t worth accepting? Or might it have something to do with the fact that very few people (probably only in-state residents of my midwestern state) from Duke ever apply to my school? That’s the message I’m trying to get across.
