I am currently a sophmore in High School. I have developed an intense interest in the field of medicine, particularly oncology. I am looking for any sort of position in Medicine this summer, preferably one in which their is some sort of research involved (but to reiterate I am open to anything). In terms of my academic qualifications I have an A average, with a 2130 on my PSATs. My standardized test scores on the SAT in 7th grade earned me a state award and I am a member of the JHU-CTY program. I have written a proposal for a new type of treatment for cancer and have maintained A grades in all Sciences and Maths. I have taken Honors Chemistry and Biology and plan to take both of the courses respective APs junior and senior year . I have also done independent research on the nature of cancer and have tried to learn as much as I can about it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would say look for scholarships or internships that pay you to do research with a professional. That is what I am doing this summer. If you can get in with someone doing cancer research, that would be awesome. However, I think research in any field will help develop your analytical abilities. Impressive resume, by the way.

I just think you should know–medical schools won’t get to know much about all the medical ECs you do in high school. The AMCAS application asks for ECs after you’ve graduated.

Such an internship would be valuable to measure your personal interest though.
I don’t know what state you live in, so I can’t really suggest programs. sorry.

volunteer at a hospital! That’s what I’m doing now-eventually if you meet a doctor, which I did, you would get to shadow them. But the closest to the hospital life you’ll ever get now is as a volunteer :)
