Medical Marijuana at UC Berkeley

Just talked to someone over the phone about their policies on medical marijuana in the res halls and was somewhat surprised to hear that they don't allow it. Anyways, I know I'll probably get criticized for this from some people on here, but has anyone been caught in the res halls with a considerable amount? I was thinking of bringing a quarter to half a pound for some money saving purposes in vacuum sealed containers (probably a QP to be safe). Please, only those with previous experience and getting caught up in the res halls.

To the haters: I use it as a sleep aid, seriously. I used to be awake till 2am during the school year and my mom is nuts about pharmaceutical drugs and probably wouldn't take me to the doc anyaways, so I went and got myself a medi card. Not a big fan of the pharmaceuticals either. But hey, getting high is fun too.

bump

Alcohol is legal, but they don’t allow it in most dorms, even if you’re over 21. I’d imagine marijuana is treated the same way in states where it’s legal.

Just to give you some idea of why the school does not allow it. My daughter who has asthma lives in a dorm. One of her dorm mates decided to get high. She ended up in the ER and almost had to take a medical withdrawal from school. As it was it took her over a week to recover and this was very close to finals. So yeah, I understand why the school is against any form of smoking in a dorm. Asthma is very common. What is a nice relaxing sleep aid for you can make the next person sick.

Also consider your roommate. This is probably considered a violation of your housing contract and can get you throw out. Some schools will consider this a violation for both roommates even if you are the only one smoking. You might get away with it occasionally but not every night every night.

I know a lot of teenagers that don’t go to sleep until 2am. The medical condition is called being a teenager.

My guess is there are legal and insurance implications by allowing marajuana smoking in dorm rooms. If a harmful fire were to start due to smoking, UCB likely would be on the hook if they knowingly allowed it.

My question was not whether or not I would get in trouble for SMOKING in my dorm, it was about POSSESSING marijuana in my dorm. I’m not that rude or stupid. If I did want to smoke in my room I would at least ask my dorm mates. I’m really sorry that your daughter had a very inconsiderate room mate! Thanks for the reply

Let me phrase my question again to avoid further complication. Has anyone been caught for POSSESSING MEDICAL marijuana in the dorms, and what were the consequences? I KNOW YOU CANNOT SMOKE in the dorms. Thanks!

This doesn’t really help with your actual question, but vaporizing and edibles are great options :)

Drugs are not the answer to your problems

If there is a rule against it, it’s likely that someone has broken it already. Don’t bring it. Get some warm milk and warm cookies and you will fall asleep like a baby.

A quarter of a pound is A LOT. Maybe you could try bringing a couple ounces, instead?

I’m sure that since you have a medical card for it, they would be more lenient than if you were just some kid wanting to get high. However, I’d still be weary about possessing marijuana at school… You don’t want to get kicked out after all that money you spent! Someone said even alcohol isn’t allowed, but then again you have it for medicinal reasons…

I’m sure there will be people who smoke already at Berkeley, but what about that old saying about jumping off a bridge? xD

I can legally have up to 8 ounces at a time (half a pound), so I figured I’d stick to half to be safe.

My advice since you seem set on this is to contact a lawyer in California to see how the law applies. Your medical card could be worthless in California. If that is the case, check to see if half a pound would classify your as a dealer. Either way it is violates your dorm contract which is legally binding and could get you kick out of on campus housing and cost you your housing money. If the amount you have classifies you as a dealer than the school could get the police involved.

For the record, it was not my daughter roommate. It was someone on the floor and she was walking past their room trying to get to the bathroom. Also some dorms have shared ventilation system so your sleep aid could impact everyone.

Actually, edibles seems like a great solution. No detectable smell and can be enjoy anywhere without anybody noticing. Probably healthier since you are not inhaling the smoke into the lungs. No fire danger to upset the school. Seems like a win-win.

@noname87 I am with you completely. You are in Cali. Edibles are available in abundance and come in every kind of form you could imagine. You will not be caught with edibles, for sure. Additionally, if you buy QP’s I’m sure you can handle yourself. If you get concentrates (BHO, Oil, Wax, etc.) and a rig, you can take a dab each night before bed and sleep like a baby. Hahaha the smell from them is distinct but minimal and 95% of people would not notice, still, run it by your roommate first. And be very careful, Oil is considered a felony because it is a “controlled substance”. Its a really concentrated form of THC and is all over California. Would’t be hard to find, and after the initial investment of the rig, it’s pretty economical.

Be careful because at my son’s school, all the roommates will be kicked out if drugs (even medical marijuana) is found in their dorm room.

Either find a legal way to go to sleep in the dorms or live on campus. No need to out others in jeopardy when you have better alternatives in front of you.

How hard is it to call up a medical marijuana delivery service in Berkeley to replenish your supply? Plenty of students keep weed in their dorms although they do so in violation of the University Housing Agreement. If you just go outside to smoke/ vape/ or eat, no one will care.

I have a rig, I just prefer herb haha. Concentrates get expensive too.

The whole point was to save money. Read people, READ. Theres a medical marijuana dispensary 5 minutes from my dorm.
