Hello! I'm new to this website, so I have no idea what I'm doing, but here we go. I have done a relatively good job as a student at my incredibly-competitive high school, but have done fairly well on examinations and would like for you to tell me whether the schools I'm looking into are right for me.

University of Massachusetts Amherst, University of Vermont, Oberlin (reach), NYU (reach)

State: Massachusetts
GPA: weighted 94; unweighted 88
Rank: top 25%
AP: United States History (4); English Language and Composition (without taking the class: 5); World History (likely a 5); German (likely a 5)
Honors: 9, split between As and Bs
SAT: 690 critical reading; 600 math (expected to improve to 650); 680 writing. 1970 total (1290 without writing)
SAT II: History 730

One C+: Chemistry. Thankfully I'm looking into History, English, or Journalism.

Extracurriculars: President of National German Honor Society; President and co-founder of a Student Civics Organization; Model United Nations delegate; one of three appointed students to the School District Committee; volunteer for local Greenways organization; high-ranking volunteer for Congressman's campaign; exchange student during freshman year; tutor; top school performance on National German Examination (in a school of 2000+).; recipient of several school awards

Please tell me what you think. Feel free to recommend schools you think would fit me well!

Yeah, I took the ACT and did not do as well as I had hoped (I scored a 27.) My writing was surprisingly poor. I’ll be taking the SAT again this fall, but I don’t think I have an interest in re-taking the ACT.

@loverofpoems: Thanks! 2100 is my goal. I think I can earn it this fall, seeing as I had not really prepared for the SAT the first time I took it.

I think I’d like to apply to five schools in total. Does anyone have any other suggestions for schools? Syracuse is a good school, but is very much off the beaten path. It’s about eight hours from my town.

Excellent chances at UM and UVM. Some others to possibly check into are Boston University, Pittsburgh, American, Dickinson ¶ and Fordham. Best of luck!

Thanks, poi! A lot of people have encouraged me to look into Boston University, but I’m unsure about it. I’ve grown up in the area and am looking for a departure from what I’m already familiar with. I may end up applying anyway. Thank you, though!
