they would still let you in, but (depending on the frat) they would want you to study more and might not let you do certain events.

What events might they exclude me from in that case?

Speaking of that, is it true that frats can actually help you with studying and getting good grades? That's another thing that would make this attractive.

what makes you think your cool enough for a frat?

OK, I'm bumping this. I'm going back to school on Jan 2, and I'm real excited about it, but I also know I still have to reach out and form my social network. I actually ran into one of the guys in that school club I joined the day I left campus for winter break and I got his number and said hey we should hang out sometime when we get back, so that's a start. But at times I'm still a little worried about this. I looked at this little brochure in my car about the greek system at my school, and it said that you need at least a 2.5 GPA to be considered for a bid, and they recommend that you exceed that GPA to have a better chance, so since only one of my 3 classes last quarter was on a letter grading option, I won't be able to rush this quarter, but likely in the spring I'll be able to do it. In the meantime, is it still easy to make friends in classes during the winter quarter of your first year as a transfer? I've heard from some people that it's harder the further you get into the school year, but others say you can still definitely make friends any time of the year, especially within your major since you'll start to recognize the same people in your major classes. I wasn't able to meet anyone at all in my classes last qtr, is it reasonable for me to expect better luck this qtr as long as I keep trying to meet people and start conversations with the guys sittting next to me in class, etc?

hey, that's too bad you haven't found ucsb too much to your liking.... yet. i'm sure you'll gel in some time. i'm looking at ucsb as a potential school. you said you haven't been to too many parties? i thought ucsb was a huge party school. sorry if its a bother, but you think you could tell me more about the school. are the girls generally hot, the weather, beach, campus, general student happiness, classes, anything for more information. thanks.

AceRockolla, actually UCSB is to my liking, it's the perfect school for me and I absolutely like it there, I'm very proud to be going to school there. The only thing is that I haven't made any close friends, although I mentioned that one guy, plus my former roommate, who I actually had a fair amount of common ground with, both guys are people I could potentially party with and bond with in time.

And yes, it's definitely a party school. Isla Vista, the college town right adjacent to campus, is pretty lively most Friday and Saturday nights, although I've heard that it used to be REALLY crazy before this year, I guess since the local cops are cracking down, and there's a law saying that outdoor music must be turned off at midnight on weekends. But it's still really active and fun on the weekends. I haven't been to any parties there since the first 3 weeks when the people in my old dorm were actually going every Friday and Saturday, but they're real fun, I miss going out there and getting trashed :). The girls are definetely hot here, especially if you prefer blondes. The weather is like the rest of SoCal - warm dry summers, cool to mild winters with some rain. Don't mean to make it sound like UCSB isn't what it's cracked up to be, it is, it's just a shame I haven't experienced that much of it yet, but in time I'm sure I will.

about the GPA thing... they have a minimum requirement, usually a 3.0.. not very hard. i suggest you looking @ www.greekchat.com
