I have scheduled meetings with an admissions counselor at a few colleges that I'm looking at- i've already taken their tours and information sessions, but I want to ask some questions about the schools, and show the schools that I have legitimate interest in them.

What should I wear to these meetings?
What should I bring with me?

I figured that I shouldn't wear jeans and a t-shirt, but how formal should I go?
I also figure that I should bring something with my questions, but should I bring a folder or a briefcase or something?

To be safe, I’d go somewhere in the middle. Khaki pants and a nice top, perhaps button-down. A folder might be good. A briefcase might be a little over the top, especially if you just have a piece of paper with some questions inside of it. Also, don’t wear anything that distracts from what you’re saying. I can’t tell if you’re male or female, but if you’re female, don’t wear big dangling earrings or gaudy necklaces that will flap around as you talk and make gestures. If you’re male, well…I can’t think of any examples other than wearing overly loud colors or crazy hairstyles.

Make sure your questions aren’t already answered on the school’s website, unless you’re asking to receive clarification on something written on the site.

They should already have your transcripts and application with them for your interview, so there’s really no reason to bring any of that with you unless there is something else you’d like them to consider that would be relevant.
