Megill and the vocal department

Anybody have first hand info about the quality of the vocal performance dept? Daughter aspires to sing opera and is applying to conservatories in US. However, her interest is piqued by the opportunity to study in French-speaking Canada.

Just don’t spell it wrong on the application. :)

Well, it’s not my area of expertise, but McGill’s faculty of music is well regarded I hear. Plus [Claude Gingras](http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.com/index.cfm?PgNm=TCE&Params=U1ARTU0001370), La Presse’s (Quebec’s most important newspaper) classical music critic who is acerbic about everything, usually says good things about McGill’s opera productions, thus it can’t be a bad program.

EDIT: I knew Gingras has been there forever, but I just noticed he started his career in 1952. He’s been criticizing music for longer than Roger Ebert has been talking about movies!
