When do applicants for the School of Music at McGill start to find out about admission!?!? I'm desperate! (flute in particular)..oh and is it hard for flutes to get in?!

McGill was a bit later than most last year. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1060129785-post3.html Note the 4/4 posting date.

I just checked the letter my D received from McGill after her audition and it said that they would announce results on Minerva around the first of April and send letters shortly thereafter. So I guess we gotta hold on.

Thanks for all your help! I am so anxious to see the results! Now does anyone know about how competitive the flute is there?

I know that the MM's have heard---for voice.

Musicamusica: Sorry to ask a silly question, but does "MM's" pertain to the students applying to masters in music programs? My daughter applied for Voice Performance and Music Education (Bachelor) and she has not heard anything from McGill yet.

KeyofH--the Voice Performance/Music Ed program at McGill looks fantastic. Do you happen to know if/how the teaching certificate earned would be accepted in the States? 5 years, a great education, but it would be nice to know how the piece of paper might transfer.

Sopranomom92 -- believe it or not certification is just one of those little details that we haven't neatly tied up in a bow. I wish I could help you. And even if I had the information for my state, I don't know it would be applicable for your state.

By the way, my D's a little skiddish about McGill. It takes a certain type of person who would relish going to school in a French-speaking city, going through customs and immigration just to come home from school, and attending school with kids who are a couple years older than U.S. freshman. Me -- for example -- I would love it, but it's not for everyone. It's not off the list, but . . .

yup---MM= Masters of Music.

Thank you musicamusica. I'm still mentally locked into BM

I found out I got in yesterday in an email. KeyofH - i feel the same way about your D with all the customs and stuff. i love montreal and frenchiness but im not sure its worth it...

Congratulations, flooter, even if you don't want to go McGill. It's still quite an accomplishment. Where will you go instead?

sopranomom92- NO, the teaching certificates issued in Canada are NOT valid in the US, at least not in NY State. I know 3 people who were caught up in this mess and although they were trying to teach in places where teachers were desperately needed, they had to enroll in Master's Degree programs and take the 3 tests required by the State in order to obtain the teacher's certificate.
If one is going to get their teaching certification in another country, or even in another state, it pays to check on the reciprocal regulations so that you are prepared for what might come your way.

I haven't decided if i am or am not going to mcgill yet, I'm not sure I want to go to school in a different country but I will have to see what my choices are and look at everything very closely :)

Flooter, my daughter just found out she was accepted into McGill Schulich! But she doesn't want to go.

congrats! what does your daughter play, keyofh?

wait are they sending out letters or did you log into minerva!!!!!

Hello Flooter and ILovetheflute: Thank you for the congrats -- My daughter is going for a double major in voice performance and music education. We logged into Minerva and decoded the application status page. Admissions said it would be sending out letters around April 1.

KeyofH ...congrats!!! When do you think everyone who applied will hear on Minerva..I am quite anxious!!!!! Oh and when did you find out?

Hi, Ilovetheflute -- Thank you! I'm sorry I don't know when everybody else will be posted. Usually we're always the last, no matter what it is. So, I was surprised to see it posted on Minerva. We were told that everyone would be informed by letter around April 1. We found out around 6:00 p.m. this evening. Good luck to you.
