Memory foam beds, sleep number beds....

I know hotel chains put a lot of study into choosing their bedding. Several chains sell their mattresses and linens. Might be worth looking into what is available. Westin for example. (I’ve noticed they don’t go the foam mattress route.)

@conmama I’m sad that you are disappointed with your Serta icomfort…we got one a few years back and it’s the most comfy thing I can imagine. No issues with sagging at all…

Let us know what you end up with!

Was yours the gel infused? After this started happening I went to read online reviews, and sure enough several people were saying the exact same thing…great for 6-9 months than foam breaking down.

I have read several times that tempurpedic retains it’s sturdiness. I was reluctant yo purchase because I’ve also read how hot they can get.

yes, it’s the gel infused…oh so comfy…

of course now that you’ve got me thinking about this I’ll start obsessing over it…

“I am right there with you. And I can’t remember if their is latex in these types of mattresses. I definitely do not want latex in my mattress”

Latex can mean two different things. There are all natural latex mattresses. They’re expensive but becoming popular. Others are made with a synthetic latex.

" Pure Latex (latex derived from the rubber tree, the sap of which is used to make a true, natural latex mattress) works well for allergy sufferers, and asthma sufferers, since it is considered hypoallergenic, and it is naturally anti-microbial and anti-bacterial as well"

We had a sleep number for years. We loved it but DH needs a bed that can have his head raised. We bought a Tempurpedic type bed. Worst mistake ever. It seemed a lot softer in the store. Sleep number now sells an bed you can raise the head of. We are saving our money and plan to get one ASAP.

We have had a sleep number bed for around 20 years and really love it.

We got one a little over a year ago, and I LOVE it! But I have a very chronic case of GERD that is mostly aggravated by eating too close to bedtime (which I try to avoid, but can’t always). Most nights I go to sleep with the head elevated about 30-40°. Whenever I wake up for the first time, either to go to the bathroom, or when H’s alarm goes off at 5AM, I lower it to basically flat and sleep that way until I’m ready to get up. When I mentioned to my GI doctor that I do this, she said she has a lot of patients who speak very highly of this feature on beds (doesn’t necessarily have to be a Sleep Number).

From a New York Times article: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/22/your-money/mattress-not-usually-to-blame-in-sleep-problems-experts-say.html

What does the sleep number feel like? Can you tell it’s an inflatable type mattress? There is a distinct difference between the feel of a spring and memory foam. Is it similar to either of those?

If your sleep is so deeply disturbed that you need to see a sleep specialist… your issue is definitely not the mattress!

My sleep number feels pretty much like a combination of spring and foam mattress. Except I can change it any time. It’s hugely too much money for what you get unless you need the adjustments and can afford the mattress.

Thanks.

most of us forget that a good mattress only last 7-10 years.
We go on into many more years without thought until out backs hurt. Then we argue with our spouse as they “are just fine”.
Then a week of sleeping on the floor, arguing, and then! a new bed is purchased.
Gotto love the predictability.

How much is a sleep number queen or king?

I see used ones on Craigslist (ick!) So some people must be dissatisfied.

good lord, some people are deathly allergic to latex. I can’t believe it’s touted as being basically hypoallergenic!

We have a sleep number but it’s NOT memory foam. I can’t take the heat I generate on one of those! We got the split feature so dh could raise himself up a bit as it helps his lower back pain. The biggest con is putting the stupid sheets on it AND you have to spend $$$$ for the sheets to fit it with the split.

Agree… but the more I’ve done it, the more efficient I’ve become. However, I have been known to wash sheets the morning the cleaning lady is coming because she always makes the bed when she’s here - heck on those days I wouldn’t even care if she didn’t make the bed and just put the sheets back on (said, as I type this, sitting about 45° upright in my bed - I love it).

Also, I get occasional coupons from them, so with a coupon, it helps.

Some people joke about it being an old people’s bed or hospital bed, but it was actually D1 who got an adjustable bed (head and feed) first, and told me how much she loved it (although hers isn’t a split top).

“Some people joke about it being an old people’s bed”

I think I would have loved an adjustable bed during my pregnancies!

OMGosh… that would have been the PERFECT time to have one!
