can anyone fill me in on the club team? S is a decent player from Baltimore & possibly looking for Div 3 playing opportunities, many schools being in the NE of course. But he likes the west & Pomona looks interesting. How competitive is the team? Coaching? How is the club run? Guess being a club team, lacrosse wouldn't be an extra hook for him.

Pomona's team is actually a 5C (all the claremont schools combined) wide team. One of my good friends played this last spring and in his opinion the team is fairly competitive. They play a good deal of out-of-conference games (traveling to Northern California to play teams like Cal, Sonoma State, Hayward State, etc...) and are currently looking to move up a division in to an even more competitive league. From what my friend has told me they recieve a decent amount of funding from the school, but players are required to contribute in order to support travel expenses. As far as coaching goes, they recently hired a new coach (chosen by the players) after a dispute with the last coach, as far as I know all the players respect and like the new coach and by all indications that means he is doing a good job. The team is mostly run by the players, i.e. in charge of funds, arranging travel, securing referees, etc...

One additional bonus is that since the team is Claremont wide, it allows the different players to make friends on all the campuses, which in my mind is a really great thing.

www.laxpower.com may be of help ... they have all college programs on their site and also attempt to rank them all ... so you can see how they rank Pamona as a club team ... and there will be comparisons to east coast schools which you know better

My daughter had several close friends, including her BF on the lacrosse team in 2002. I think in 2003 they went first place in the regionals. Anyway I remember the team travels up and down the California coast to play teams, including Sonoma State, Santa Clara and UC Santa Cruz.
Many strong players are from the east coast, especially the DC area (including her BF). Back then, it was mostly student run, including some coaching. I don't know situation now since lacrosse is becoming very popular in California and many high schools carry varsity teams.
