S mailed a Mensa Scholarship app Jan 15th. They asked that it be sent regular first class mail only without certified mail or return receipt, but said that he could include a stamped postcard in the envelope that they would use to acknowledge receipt of his app.

I realized this week that he never received the postcard. I doubt there's really anything he can do at this point -- even if it was lost in the mail, he can't prove he applied in time or anything.

So, we're just wondering if anyone else had the same experience of not receiving the acknowledgment postcard, if you included one (not sure if that was a chapter-specific thing or not either)

mominaz just knowing that another student didn’t get their postcard back is reassuring

Joeshie, at least in our region, they specifically asked that it not be sent certified, otherwise I would have! (I assume they didn’t want to have to be around to sign for them.)

Huh, I didn’t read anything that mentioned certified was bad. Could be just your region, as u stated. They did say that meter mail would not be accepted after the postmark date, but that’s different.

I got out the app to look at it. It says: Materials most be postmarked, regular US Post Office Delivery, no later than January 15, 2011. Metered mail received after the deadline and special delivery mail will not be accepted.

They also said that you could send a stamped, self addressed post card if you want to acknowledge receipt of your entry.

This one looks like it moves up through different levels like the Elks. If you aren’t familiar with the Elks read that post - very interesting getting any info on your status for that one at least.

This Mensa only seemed like it was for $300 or $600 or something like that, but heck that could buy books for DS so he felt it was worth it. He had an essay that already fit with a little tweaking. Anyway, good luck everyone!
