Is there any type of aid available for out of state students with good stats/EC?

Merit only, not need based.

Is there perhaps an OOS tuition waiver for qualified candidates?

Is it difficult to even get accepted as an OOS student?

Merit aid is very difficult to get when you’re OOS… from what I can tell, it may be almost impossible, so don’t hold your breath. Need-based tuition help is still difficult to get, since UW prefers to give tuition assistance to in-state students, but it’s possible to get need-based aid as an OOS student, I think. I don’t think that there’s an OOS tuition waiver, but you’d need to ask the financial aid office about that.

Because of this, I’d make sure to apply for as many outside scholarships as possible. I DIDN’T do that, and I really wish I had, because I’m getting no aid at all. There are all sorts of great scholarships out there, (and I’m being presumptuous by assuming that you’re an incoming senior in HS, so please forgive me if I’m incorrect) and I’m sure that your school’s guidance office would be able to hook you up with a few scholarship applications.

It might be a good idea to email or call the office of financial aid to ask them some questions; they’d probably be able to give you a better answer than I could in relation to your questions.

Thanks, Ceetie. I sure will call the university, but it’s great to get advice from people who are there now and may know something they don’t.

As for HS GCs, if you want to go to the state flagship, they’ll get you info on TOPS, our state incentive to go to local colleges, but beyond that, you’re on your own.

I see you’re from Oregon. What made you choose Washington over an Oregon college?

If you don’t mind my asking, what’s your major and what dorm do you live in?

Oops, that’s personal, sorry, but figure since you’re OOS, you must live on campus, and I figured I take the opportunity to ask about dorms.

Yes, I am a rising senior. Want to study biomedical engineering.

I chose Washington over Oregon because in Oregon there’s no way I could major in Japanese and be on a competitive crew team. UO has the Japanese I need (OSU’s is more tech-based), but OSU has the division I crew. UW has both, so it was a great pick.

I’m actually not a student there now – I’m an entering freshman, so I don’t know which dorm I’m in. Once I’m there though, I’m sure I’ll be able to give you some inside info on dorm life. From what I can see based on pictures from various sources, the dorms don’t look that bad. I’ve certainly seen worse.
