I received my acceptance letter today, but there was no mention of merit aid. Does this mean I was not offered any, or will it be sent in a separate mailing? What about the honors college?

You are automatically accepted to the honors college if you are in the top 10% of your class.

do you receive any type of notification that you are accepted into the honors program? Or do you just assume you are if within the top 10%? also, any idea how much the centennial scholarships are and when we will find out amount awarded?

Centennial scholarship. According to the website can be from $1000 to full tuition.

Sadly, they do not let you know until April, which is late!

I was notified in my acceptance letter that I was receiving the centennial scholarship. I have not received the amount yet. I think the amount will come in April.

I actually got my scholarship letter today! Not as much as I hoped for but it something!

I got a scholarship letter today as well…I thought it would be in April. Apparently I’m getting $40,000…which is surprising considering my EFC was really high.

sak- merit award (centennial scholarship) is not need based (not based on your EFC).
$10,000 a year here also.

I still feel so cheated and bitter by this school… =/

kjcastillo-
Don’t feel cheated. It’s based on merit.
Merit= GPA and SAT’s

According to another of your posts, you had some bad luck with the SAT’s and got below a 600 on each section.

However- Horray for you. You got into Tufts!!! That’s great. Incredible school with incredible reputation. Even though my son had really good ACT’s and GPA, I would never had thought it were good enough to even apply.

Sorry about the $$$ though. In this day and age, it really matters.

Have you decided on a school?

Do you mind posting your merit award from Tufts if any? I have a friends whose daughter may apply next year.

Good luck to you and remember, you can’t take these acceptances/awards personally. There are so many factors involved.

Thanks crazed, but I’m actually almost done with my freshman year at Tufts. Though I wanted to stay with most of my friends who go to URI, I found it a lot better to get a fresh start on my social life. I’ve never seen so many amazing people all together in one place! haha.

just noticed i had an email from URI back in feb telling me i got centennial. 10k per year. also got into honors.

Would anyone who received Centennial (10k/yr) mind please posting their stats? Thank you.

anyone? …

Sandman, I just received a 12K per year Centennial Scholarship today. I have a 4.0 UW GPA, 1450/2130 SAT, excellent recs, and a ton of ECs. I’m not sure what the stats are of other people who received scholarships in the past. Have you tried emailing URI?

Thanks for sharing pinknpreppy and congrats! How long ago did you apply? Our D just got hers in on 10/31.

Yes, I’ve emailed several schools regarding their merit aid practices; all are understandably very non-committal.

Our D’s stats are lower than yours: 1300/2100 SAT (R: 600, M: 700, W: 800). UW GPA is ~3.5 but weighted is well over 4.5 due to honors, AP, EEP courses. Two varsity sports and good ECs too, and a very good essay.

I wonder if they give full Centennials too to lesser stats than you have and you actually might represent the upper end? I hope so. :)

Thanks again.

D just got accepted today with $10K/year Centenniel Scholarship. Very exciting because it’s her first acceptance. Not sure she will attend as it was her safety school, but still. Always a possibility. Her stats (because someone here asked) are: 26 ACT, WGPA 3.6/4.0, rank 39/470. Public HS on Long Island, NY.

LINYMOM- hey when did you D have all her application stuff in?

LINYMOM- also did you check online or did you get a letter?
thanks!

Yanksfan: My D submitted her info online in mid October. I don’t think the guidance dept got the transcript and recs out till the end of the month. We didn’t check online. She got a package in the mail (large envelope, but not thick) yesterday. I will check her college email address for you and see if they sent an email. (just checked – they didn’t email her)
