D’s major is biology. On their website it doesn’t mention that pharmacy majors aren’t eligible for the merit awards, but under “departmental scholarships” it does not list pharmacy as being eligible for those awards. Fingers crossed for your son. I may call them today to ask about those departmental awards.

My d’s letter does say that pharmacy students who get merit aid get it for 10 semesters, not just 8, like everyone else. Good luck gogiants, I think you’re being too pessimistic.

Ha! I was just coming on to post the same thing. My daughter’s letter also mentions that pharmacy students will get the scholarship for 12 semesters. Good news!!

Thanks guys… maybe he still as a shot. Buckeye …if you do call for the Departmental Scholarships… lets us know if you find out anything…

Well, he got the letter and it says% 6,000 for 24,000 over 4 years or if Pharmacy is the major it will be for 12 semesters. So, the way I read it he can spread it out for more 4 years but it still says a max of 24,000…unless I am reading this wrong. I too am disappointed. I thought with a 33 ACT and 3.8 uw and 4.2 w average he would get more… This will probably take us out of the running at Butler…ugh.

Hi GoGiantsfan29, that is the same award my daughter received. I wonder if its possible to ask for more if you show them that other schools have offered more merit aid. I’m going to call them Monday to correct my daughter’s major and will inquire then.

Hi Ewparent… I am going to call on monday and ask them if it had anything to do with the fact he put down pre-pharamcy. He would gladly change his major to either computer science or chemistry if he could get more money. Or I might have my son write his admission counselor… … not sure if I should got that route or go straight to the financial aid office. hmmm…

disappointed with $6,000 like most. can’t afford $34k/yr. Congrats to everyone though who are satisfied with theirs.

Sorry, NYJetsFan, that yours wasn’t more. I think there is still a chance for departmental scholarships, but from what I’ve read, those wouldn’t be more than a few thousand bucks. May not be enough to make it possible…

Stressful time for everyone, but I’m sure everyone will end up in a great school.

Hi,
We also received the $6000 merit aid. Hate to seem greedy, but we were also hoping for more. Does anyone know if they ever come back and offer more after someone else declines the offer? Anyone heard anything about departmental scholarships yet? Thanks!

Buckeye 1958,
My daughter is planning to major in business and she was invited to come to campus for Business Scholar’s Day where she’ll be interviewed for a departmental scholarship. It didn’t sound like it was an automatic scholarship, at least not in the School of Business.

how did the business scholars day at Butler go? did she have to interview?

My daughter really enjoyed Business Scholars Day. She did have an interview for a departmental scholarship. She was very nervous beforehand because she’d never had an interview before but said later that it wasn’t nearly as bad as she was expecting. She was interviewed by a professor and a Butler alum. and she said both were very nice and put her at ease.

My daughter and I both came away with a very positive impression of Butler.

She won’t find out until later this spring if she’s been awarded a departmental scholarship. We’re keeping our fingers crossed. Butler is one of my daughter’s top choices but without scholarship assistance it will not be an affordable option for us.
