Merit scholarship for ED applicants

Does JHU offer any of the merit scholarships (20 in number, I heard) to ED applicants (considering they are obligated to attend if offered admission) or they reserve them only for the top talent in RD pool?

My understanding is that all freshmen applicants are considered for the Hodson Scholarship. I would speculate, however, that most of the scholarships go to RD applicants since they seem to be used primarily to attract top students who likely will receive offers from other top schools and the committee wants to attract them to enroll at Hopkins. ED students have already committed to attend Hopkins unless their financial needs are not met, so the incentive to grant them a merit scholarship (as opposed to need-based aid) would seem to be lacking. But, as I said, this is speculation on my part but it seems to make sense.

I’m a Hodson Scholar and I applied ED so yes, everyone, including ED applicants, are considered.

For the Hodson scholarship, when do they decide who receives it? Is it after the RD pool has been chosen, or do they give some out to ED applicants before RD applications have come in?

Can’t say for sure, but I think I remember getting my e-mail a few days after my ED e-mail… or I just got it in the packet they sent me…
