I am Instate but took the hardest coursework available at my school. In state applicants receive lower merit money though? I didn’t realize that was a thing… @motortrend
@crazymamaB Yes it is 1500 per semester, 3000 per year. I didn’t apply late either, sent my app in 11/20 and they received all my materials a few weeks later.
@cinnamonspice state residents have lower tuition at all of the state schools so the schools generally give more funds to out of staters. SUNY, Rutgers, UCONN all do the same thing.
@CinnamonSpice If you look at the Merit Scholarships for In-State applicants, the highest you could possibly receive is $5000. You would probably need a 2200+ to even be considered. Only the out of state students get the higher amounts in order to defray the higher tuition cost. This is normal.
I was accepted on February 9 and I was also accepted to the Honors College but I don’t see any signs of scholarships yet. My weighted GPA is a 4.02 and I have a 2160 on the SAT. I thought my stats would give me a pretty good shot at getting some sort of merit scholarship, but should I not be expecting anything since it’s been over two weeks since I’ve received my acceptance?
You should be getting a scholarship @hes0716 You didn’t apply EA? maybe thats why? Or maybe you are instate?
“UDel has always been a little low with the merit awards.” I don’t know how you could say that in light of their Distinguished Scholars program…with up to full rides awarded every year.
Does anyone know if the merit awards show up the same time the financial aid award shows up?
Merit comes first with acceptance. Financial aid not out yet.
@motortrend I was told that merit comes about 10 days after acceptance. My D was accepted on 2/26 and her financial aid award showed up today but no merit money. Was hoping for some to help with the expense.
My son was accepted through the portal on Thursday, got his letter on Saturday and the scholarship showed up in his portal on Monday. I wasn’t expecting it so fast!
@udel2020 I think my acceptance was on the portal then I received merit a few days later. I haven’t received financial aid yet but not expecting much. I’m OOS
My daughter committed last night. The grant from UD and FAFSA aid showed up today
My daughter’s fafsa aid showed up today but no merit. She is OOS also. It’s interesting how some get merit first, some get fafsa aid first and some get both at once. Can’t figure this stuff out.

Pleasantly surprised with UD offer for DS. Was given the Trustee scholarship soon after admission, this week, when full package arrived was given additional merit from the business school. Did not realize this was a possibility. It put UD back on the list! Wondering if this is a common occurance?
S received letter merit letter this past weekend, about 2 weeks or so after we received admit package.
I got additional merit from the business school as well, but it was given to me months after my admittance. Definitely not complaining though!
D was accepted in January and received merit award about a week later. We were surprised and D was thrilled because U Del is pretty expensive OOS.
Has anyone received a university grant on top of a merit scholarship? Or any financial aid other than federal?
