Merit scholarships

I just want to confirm that there are other Honors program students out there who did not receive any type of Merit scholarship? (like us..so disappointed). Also, are the scholarships like the ones at other schools where you have to let them know if you are taking it by a certain date so they can then "move down the list" on who to offer them to? (trying to remain hopeful) Thanks for any info.

ProudMom2012, My son received no merit scholarship, with almost identical stats to your daughter (saw your previous BK post). I believe it has gotten so competitive with UMD that they have to be very selective in their criteria for merit, perhaps due to limited funds? For your other question I would contact the UMD Admission Counselor for your county/state – I have found them to be quick to respond and very helpful. Congrats and good luck to your daughter.

Nothing for my daughter, who is in Honors either. We weren’t expecting anything beyond the Dean’s Scholarship. We were hoping for a small token amount. Fortunately we are in a position where she doesn’t really need it.

DS did receive a merit scholarship - - the reply date is May 1st. Note that we are OOS so that still puts us more than full in-state.

nothing here either. in-state, NMF, 35 ACT (36/36/36/33), 8 APs (4 and 5s) plus mostly all honors, 3.8 (uw)/4.5 (w) GPA, about 500 hours of community service.

maybe he didn’t have the right intangibles they were looking for… or maybe they saw something they didn’t like… maybe this… maybe that… we will never know.

CP went from the top of the list to “off the list” in 10 days or so… he, too, have other options so it’s time to move on. he will be working on revising his NMF college choice change form this weekend.

congrats to everyone who received one. Good job!
