Merrit Scholarship

Congratulations to everyone that got in!!!

I got accepted too, so excited!

From the admission letter, it didn't state anything about merrit scholarship awards, how do we find out?

I think if you received a STRIDE or a Zollman scholarship, you were notified at the beginning of this week. I can’t recall if Smith offers other merit scholarships…

If you were a merit scholarship recipient, you would have been notified already. If you’re going to receive any need-based financial aid, that info will come with the official acceptance letter which should be arriving pretty soon/you may already have it.

I’d be curious if anyone has received notice of one of the Engineering Scholarships, which aren’t quite Merit per se but aren’t needs-based either. The daughter of a friend, yada yada.

^Yes, I heard things about these engineering scholarships as well…I guess I would have already heard if anything like that had happened, though…I’m still trying to figure out if Smith is going to make sense financially, unfortunately. I didn’t get any merit aid and don’t qualify for need-based aid, so I’m not sure. I have nice merit aid at 2 other schools, but I don’t like them as much as Smith…

CaliDancer-you know how much I want you at Smith!!! But I know the money’s a big thing… I’m still shocked you didn’t get a STRIDE

^Aww, thanks r6l - well, I knew that the STRIDE scholarships are incredibly competitive and there is obviously quite a limited number (congrats on yours again, btw!).
However, I certainly have not ruled out Smith as a possibility, and I would love to be at Smith with you (and t_c)!

Thanks!!!
Well, either way, you’re going to end up at a FANTASTIC school.

Can you believe we’re at the point where we have to make DECISIONS…yikes!!!

CaliforniaDancer, congratulations on your acceptance! I’m sure you’re keenly aware just how special Smith’s engineering program is–the sole women’s engineering program in the country. One of my daughter’s good friends is in the program and she LOVES it. It’s very intense so there’s lots of bonding that goes on with the other engineering students as they make their way through the program. I’m crossing my fingers for you that you get an engineering scholarship!

Just as a note, engineering scholarships are usually announced the same was as STRIDEs - in a letter received a week or so before official decisions are posted (my sister was offered an engineering scholarship two years ago, but she decided not to attend Smith).
