<p>Just wait til their 1st liberty and they go to the Big Apple.... Total strangers approached them to have their PICS taken with them! Moreover, they were moved to the front of the line at some restaurant....and many offers to buy them beers (not such a good idea!)</p>

<p>Of course you did KP10. Have you not looked in the mirror when you're in your whites? LOL Just kidding. Wait until you go into the city. My son said he felt like a tourist attraction. I have six or so photos of him with girls in the subway, girls in time square, some crazy Brits on top of the Empire State Building, ect.. We'd be walking along in the city and people would stop him to shake his hand or to get a photo. Mom & Dad might should be prepared when they go anywhere with you. Its kinda bizzare.</p>
<p>The best reason to be a winter sport athlete is that you are usually back at KP right after Christmas when nobody is around and Plebes get 1st class privledges then. But a trip in your uniform to Times Square on New Year's Eve gets the cops opening barriers for you and being escorted to the VIP section as well as your mug on the big screen.</p>
<p>So true LFWBDad. Their experiences are top shelf & very few civvy college kids will have anything like this to compare to. Vastly different. My kid went to Ellis Island to do a color guard and they'd shut down the Statue of Liberty to tourists to give a private tour to VIPs. He thought it was awesome. </p>
