I am very interested in the scholarships because I am OOS and did not get much aid as an incoming freshman. So, I will be paying around 30k per year. My parents can pay for it, but I do not want to burden them too much since I am also planning to go to graduate school

I’ve gotten both the need-and-merit and industrial scholarships through the linked application.

Typically, 3.7+ will get you through the prelim rounds, then your personal statement/application/need-based status will get the you the scholarship. I have good ECs and good leadership experience. Also, the gpa depends on your major since its definitely easier to get a 3.7+ in CEE or IOE then it is in Aero or ME.

For the need-based scholarship, I received 2500, and for the industrial 5000.

Its a lot easier in IOE (compared to Aero, EECS and ME) since the grades are curved more leniently. For IOE, I’d think you need a 3.85 to be considered but apply anyways cause im really just guessing. Just so you know, they typically have a set of scholarships to give away per department, so you’re competing within your major.

It seems like the average grade is about the same in IOE as it is in EECS (all the professors say that the grades are curved to a B-), but that on average IOE majors are much lazier than EECS majors, so it takes much less work to get an A in IOE than it does in EECS. I say this having taken multiple IOE and EECS classes.

Thanks for the reply. I am assuming you received $2500 and $5000 per term? Also does the state residency usually change the amount of scholarship?

My s will be a Junior at UMich in CEE with a 3.76GPA OOS and has not received any of the COE specific scholarships being that he does not qualify for need based. Not sure what it takes to get any of those. Never hurts to try :)
