I knwo u mich only counts 10th and 11th grade as your new "gpa" but do they look at your old transcript with your SCHOOLS grades?

and does anyone know how exactly do they recalculate your grades? 3.7-4 is a 4, or what??

A+, A and A- are all = to 4.0

B+, B and B- are all = to 3.0

C+, C and C- are all = to 2.0

they also round everything to the tenth decimal place. so for instance a 3.84 would round to a 3.8, while a 3.86 would round to a 3.9

do they give extra points for honors/ap classes? Im kind of stuck because my best years were frosh and senior year..my UW school gpa is a 3.85, but my soph-junior year is only a 3.67...will this ruin my chances a lot? Also...what classes are calculated into the gpa (i go to catholic school, and i assume no religion classes)

are the counted "core" classes math, science, english, 2nd language, and history...or do stuff like health and photography count too

the umichigan gpa is unweighted.

so no extra points (unlike the UC gpa)

ugg do they take into account hard classes that much then?

hey ozmaweez, so if my recalculated gpa comes out to 3.67, its really a 3.7? (yuck either way lol)

Although Michigan does not grant extra points for Honors and AP classes, they do take class difficulty into consideration. A 3.7 unweighed GPA is ok, so long as ytour SAT is also good.

Anyway, good luck to you and keep us posted.

pinkpanther i wouldnt worry to much with a GPA of 3.67 i got in with the same GPA last year

that's nifty, that recalculation. helpful if you're close to a 4.0.

hmm...i never really felt michigans methods for calculating gpa was extremely fair.

for instance say a student gets an a-,a-,a-, a-, b- in all his core classes. and another student got an a+,a+,a+,a+,b+. Would michigan actually consider these students to have an equal gpa? If not, how would michigan differentiate the student who excelled from the student who did really well but did not excell?

what DOES michigan look at in terms of gpa then? does your original, and i guess more fair, gpa from your school get considered at ALL? or will my 3.85 just disappear and they will look at me as a 3.67 applicant? (i am out of state btw, which makes it suck even more)...alexandre or anyone?

and is it for sure that a 3.67 would "round" to a 3.7 flat?

im trying to recalculate my gpa in accordance with umich procedure.

I have quarter marking period grades so that I have 4 marking period grades, and one final exam grade and then this all averages to final grades,

in recalculating my gpa do I just use the scale using my final grades?

ur right danky! I have 3 B+'s each for my soph and jnior year in 3 honors class. but unfortantely they r going to be counted as 3.0's. i really hope they take that into consideration because i really think im more qualified than a student who recieved B's in 3 honors classes. ya know?
ne one! ALEXANDER?!

does michigan calculate in high school credit you finished in middle school, like algebra or geometry?

Alexandre- or anyone for that matter...what classes are countd in your umich gpa?? (i go to private school and im guessing religion/philosophy type classes dont count at all)

no offense...but I REALLY HATE THIS GPA recalculation!!! So wait they don't take your freshman grades into consideration?

yeah doesnt that suck, im mad too! not to mention i dont know exactly HOW they recalculate it or what kind of things would count
