Okay so MSU told me to send in my mid semester grades before they come to a final decision. This isn’t a deferral from them. They looked at everything I had thus far. They are just going to look at my semester grades to decide whether they’ll admit me. My semester grades are
American Military History- A
Precalculus Academic- A
English Honors- B
Architecture- A
Accounting- B
Accelerated Physics- C
AP Gov- C
GPA for semester: 3.3
Current gpa (not including the semester gpa): 2.99
Do I have a good chance?
Did you have an upward trend from last semesters GPA (not cumulative)?
The fact that they had to ask for your midyear grades worries me, because if they were ready to admit you on the spot, the university would’ve. However, your semester GPA appears to be on the upswing, which is a good sign, as are your difficulty with classes. Yet, your GPA is quite low compared to the middle 50% admitted: 3.4-3.9 unweighted.
What are your test scores? Those might be a benefit for you if they’re higher than average. Overall, I’d say it’s a reach to be admitted, but not impossible.
Any GPA below a 3.0 (there is no rounding up) is a red flag. And yes, your GPA is on the low end for the typical MSU student. If you had an upward trend, that can help you a little bit. What they could do is give you admission for the winter term instead of fall term, if you complete your last semester of high school and bring your GPA up to over 3.0.
