Michigan State Fall 2015 Transfer Students!

For those of you who got accepted: What was your GPA in your math course?

Anyone else still waiting to hear back? I’m applying to a non-impacted major… my app status still is “Your application for admission to Michigan State University is currently being reviewed. The review process can take up to 12 weeks from the date that all required documents are received.”

Heard back from the college of engineering a few days ago. I have to wait and report my current semester grades before a decision will be rendered. Has anyone else got this with the C of E and still got accepted in the long run?

Anyone else still waiting? I applied in November.

@willtohelp You should probably call the office of admissions. Maybe you haven’t submitted all of the documents needed?

Can somebody chance me getting into MSU? I just submitted my final semester grades for review. I have a total of 30 credits.

High School GPA: 3.4
ACT: 20
College GPA: 3.52
I have met the writing and math credits.

Okay so I applied to Michigan State as a mechanical engineer. I self-reported my grades today because my semester just ended and I was taking the required WRA class. I have a 3.986 gpa coming in with 43 transferable credits. I do not think I will have a problem getting in to the school with my credentials but since I applied as a mechanical engineer, does that mean I applied to CoE? I do not have all the CoE requirements done as well because the ENGR classes are not offered or transferable at my CC. I understand there is a preliminary process after getting accepted but since I do not have all the CoE requirements finished, will I get rejected? Should I have applied as undecided? If I go through the preliminary process and get rejected, will I still able to go to MSU and take the required classes? How does this process work? Someone who knows what they are talking about please give me some feedback.

@ProspSparty
If you meet all the pre-reqs for the CoE then you will be admitted directly into the CoE. If you don’t, you will be admitted to MSU as an engineering major to finish up any required courses and enter the CoE at a later date. Declaring your major as ME is the right thing to do if that’s what you intend to major in.

@Martex Wow, well the counselor at the admissions office was very misleading. She told me that I would not get accepted into CoE if my prerequisites were not finished and suggested that I should switch my major immediately. With that information, I went ahead and changed to a physics major because a lot of the engineering prerequisites apply to that degree and the College of Natural Science does not have any prerequisites. Hopefully this does not affect my chances of acceptance and I can change my major later on. Idk why she would tell me change my major if what you are saying is correct.

@ProspSparty
MSU admissions seems to lack consistency in the information they throw out to applicants. You should be fine, just be sure to change your major to ME at some point. Remember, by 60 credits you have to declare a major so you still have time with 43 credits. With regards to not having the pre-reqs, how do you think freshman declare engineering? They obviously don’t have the pre-reqs for CoE their first year but that’s still their major nevertheless. So you can still major in engineering without BEING in the CoE yet. Try sending an email to future-engineer@egr.msu.edu with your questions.

@Martex I thought that it would be different for transfer students. But then again, that wouldn’t make sense considering the EGR prereq is only transferable from six different schools.Still the counselor basically told me I needed to change my major asap or I would not get accepted, gave me a mini heart attack since all my housing is set for next year. She probably just had no idea what she was talking about. Either way, I think I should be good going in as a physic major and switching later. Thanks for the help.

Hi all,
I have an apartment for next year with my best friend (I am a transfer she isn’t) if anyone needs a place to live we have two spots and we’re nervous about finding people to fill them! Inbox me if you’re interested! Preferably female.

I am hoping to transfer to MSU in spring 2016 because I’ll be done at the end of Fall semester at Grand Rapids Community College. There transfer process is a little confusing. My major would be hospitality Business. From what I understand, If you don’t have all of the required prerequisites for your “school”, are you still considered a direct admit to MSU and have to chose a different major? I’m asking because School of hospitality you need 56 credits but I’ll only have 55 at the end of my fall semester.

Accepted on May 18 for Civil Engineering. 3.5 GPA from community college with 60+ credits.

@ProspSparty I had to deal with the same exact situation, only for nursing school. I ended up getting a decision back from MSU saying that I had to be accepted to the nursing school before attending the university, but like you, I still had prereqs to take. So, I called admissions, and they had me change my major to Human Biology, and said I will be able to change it back to nursing and apply to the school of nursing when I attend in the fall. So I think you made the right choice changing your major, you would have had to do it anyways (I think) to attend in the fall.

I know this is a late discussion but I have a question. I am a freshmen in college and I am wanting to transfer to Michigan State for the fall term. I have just completed sixteen credit hours, however, out of those sixteen only ten transfer. I am debating if I should take eighteen credit hours my spring semester or not. No matter how many credit hours I take this semester I will still have to take a course in the summer.

So the question I am asking is do I still have the possibility of being accepted for the fall term even though I will have to take courses this summer
@TheSpartan

@TheSpartan Hi you seemed to know a lot about the transferring process, was wondering what you thought about the chances of myself getting in transferring as a sophomore for fall 2016. first semster gpa 3.17 and im taking the math requirement this semester. Positive I am able to raise that gpa
