If I do get an Honors scholarship, will it show up in my applicant portal? Just got the Honors invitation email this morning, I haven’t got any postal mail yet, probably because I’m halfway over the globe.
My daughter has only received emails about the ADS competition and the Residential Business Community. Honors acceptance and $5,000 additional honors scholarship were snail mailed and there is no mention of them on the portal. Her original merit $ and study abroad $ are on the portal but not honors (and she was invited back in December).
Yes the very same for my son and on his portal. I think MSU said during the parent session of the ADS Zoom session that it takes them a while to update the portal with these new awards.
ADS results are out. My daughter received an email (or maybe it was a text). She was informed there were 1200 people who took the exam however she is not a finalist and will not move on to interviews. It did state that her participation makes her eligible for additional merit awards to be announced by April 1. We are not suspecting she will receive enough additional money to fit the budget. As MSU was in her top 3 and her first choice Ohio State already fits the budget, she will be committed to The Ohio State University.
Omg, come out already. Wow. I’ll have my son check in. Glad that it is working out with OSU. My son also has OSU as a top choice alongside MSU. Fingers crossed.
Our daughter did not move on, and she thought she did well on the test!! We found the results in spam. So, you might want to check there. Good luck to all!!
My son didn’t advance either. He said the test sucked for him anyway😆 so I guess we’re not surprised.
My son advanced. He was notified by email. He is excited about the opportunity.
Does anyone know what additional merit awards are being announced? Son was notified about the non-resident scholarship in December. He just got the email that he didn’t advance in the ADS, but is wondering what notifications he’d be waiting for.
That’s great to know. Congratulations to him and best wishes for him to make it to the final with $$$.
I’m guessing it has to do with the Honors College $13k award? My son got the $5k one and maybe they get considered for the higher award through the ADS? Just guessing.
Ive heard it’s possible their can be additional honors college awards. That would be pretty interesting if they started handing out the $13k awards. It may be another 4-6 weeks before knowing for sure. That’s getting late as many of these schools will be opening up housing applications in early and mid march. I suspect you will have many kids committing to other schools between now and than and if some get an award that changes their mind they still have time to switch and committ to MSU if they choose.
That’s what I was wondering too… If applicants who received the awards decline admission, do they offer the awards to other applicants? My son got the $15000 OOS and the $5000 Honors Distinction… If there was an actual chance at significantly more money it might be worth it to wait to make a decision.
Who could actually answer this for us? I have the same question. I don’t know if Admissions will directly share this info out like that.
I was accepted to MSU with 18k/y but I did not receive any honors invitation. I am guessing I won’t be getting one cause my GPA is low and SAT 1370. What should I do? Should I fill out an application for reconsideration or is it too late?
@stayininparis Are you an international student? Cuz I am also in the same situation.
@SQL123 yeah
All materials should be submitted via e-mail to honors@msu.edu no later than
February 15th, 2021.
The Honors College reserves the right to close admissions at any time.
The above info is mentioned on their website. I am not sure if we can still fill out an application for reconsideration
My son just received mail from the Honors College on 2/27. His initial 5000 Honors award has been increased to$13,000, with a $3,500 Professorial Assistantship. That was totally unexpected. It’s a good package making it so affordable, but he also got into UIUC for Computer Engineering as an in State student. It’s going to be a tough call.
Wow…nice. Was the email sent to his personal email or the MSU email address?
