I have been accepted into University of Michigan and Michigan State honors, I know almost all there is about the education prestige of both but i was more wondering about the social and student life. How good is the greek scene as well as student events and social gatherings.

How is this even a question? haha
MSU has a fantastic social scene…for what we may lack in academic prestige, we more than make up for it with our social life. The greek scene is something I stay out of (aside from freshman year when I didn’t know of any parties) so I’m not going to be much help there, but from outside the greek scene MSU always has something going on.

I’ve been to parties at UofM - they are actually quite fun, contrary to the stereotypes I hear about UofM kids lacking social skills/not knowing how to party. But at the same time, MSU students on average party harder/more often. The social scenes at both universities are very sports-driven and weekends tend to revolve around football games/tailgating in the fall (basketball is also big at MSU…just google Cedarfest). The bottom line is - both are big 10 universities with thousands of students who “work hard and party hard” and the social scenes are relatively comparable - although it is pretty clear that MSU has the edge on “hot girls,” parties, and general social life craziness.

As for more general student life/comments about the student body, MSU students are pretty laid-back but at the same time hardworking. It’s not all about partying/sports, although that is a big part of life. There’s a ton to do on campus in terms of free movie showings, concerts, other various events, academic/vocational/volunteer/sports interest clubs to join etc. East Lansing is a bit more boring than Ann Arbor town-wise, but there is always something new to do even in EL. People-wise, Ann Arbor students tend to be more “intelligent” on average persay, but also more cut-throat (especially in competitive majors)…they tend to be more cocky/snobby (although there are a ton of nice, laid-back kids at UofM too). There are also a lot more hipsters in Ann Arbor than MSU. MSU is not really an artsy type of place.

Just a couple comments on Greek Life - At MSU the greek scene is not very big (percentage of population-wise) and a lot of student social events don’t revolve around the greek scene at msu. About 10% of MSU students are Greek. Most Greek parties are open to most everyone (a lot of them ask for student IDs at the door). They aren’t allowed to have a common source of alcohol (kegs) though, so it is BYOB, which is pretty lame unless you know people in the house. In contrast, Michigan’s greek scene is a bit more lively because the social scene revolves more around Greek Life in general (don’t know the percentage of students that are greek there). at UofM frat parties often give out free booze, which makes them more appealing to the general populace in comparison to MSU fraternity parties.
