I got some pretty bad grades for 1st session of senior year because I am focusing on a really difficult Calculus II course I am taking at a local community college. The classes I took at my high school and grade, respectively were:

Art I: B+
Poly Sci Honors: C+
Japanese III: B+

other than that my previous 3 years of grades have been really good (4.0+ weighted GPA) and I take extremely rigorous courses.
My questions are how important are first session grades, do I have to submit them? Does MIT really care about these classes since they are not anything I want to major in (looking to go into Electrical Engineering). Does the Mid Year Grade Report affect admissions much with these classes. In addition, I am taking Calculus II, Calculus III, Linear Algebra and Differential Equations in this term and next term...Does this help overshadow these bad grades?

First of all, yes, you do have to submit all your first semester grades on your mid-year report, you can't leave out the ones you think aren't important or the ones you're not proud of.

Second of all, B+ is not a "bad grade" so don't give that a second thought.

Third of all, while you may not be planning to major in these subjects, MIT does care about your whole course load, not just your math classes, and will be looking to see that you haven't had the kind of precipitous drop in your academic transcript that for many students would indicate slacking off. If in your case you feel you can explain the C+ on the basis of your community college calculus course, I'd suggest writing a statement to that effect, explaining the discrepancy, and give it to your guidance counselor to be included with your mid-year grade report.

thank you mootmom that has really lifted me out of this cataclysmic event...and i am showing my second term grades as the following:

AP Literature/AP Government
Calculus III (Community College)
Linear Algebra and/or Differential Equations
and either AP Macro/Microeconomics or Japanese IV Honors
