Mid Year Reports

So I’m talking two REALLY challenging AP courses this year and I’m not doing too well on them. I don’t think I could bring them up to a 90 or above by the time the mid year reports are due. My transcript is all 90 and above so I’ve been told that this will look really odd, so I’m scared. How badly will this affect my chances of getting into a college? How closely do colleges even look at mid year reports? Thank you!

Are you a Junior? A Senior? Which AP courses? What colleges? What major?

It’s tough to provide much with such little information.

I’m guessing OP is a senior and he is talking about quarter grades, or maybe mid-year grades in a school that only gives a final grade in the spring (if there are such schools).

I’m assuming senior and the mid-year report is the update the GC sends to colleges at the end of the semester.

To answer the OP’s question: yes, colleges look at the mid-year report. But a couple of B’s will not prevent you from going to college. As noted above, however, it is difficult to provide more clarity without knowing more about which colleges and which AP courses.

Colleges that require you to submit first-semester, senior year grades for regular admission will use them in making the admission decision. Note, that there are a large number of colleges, particularly many public universities, that do not require mid-year reports and make admission decisions based on grades through junior year.

For those that require mid-year grades, the impact of a fall in grades probably varies, but I have been told by more than one high rank university that excellent mid-year grades will likely not overcome a weak record through junior year, but a decline in grades can be deadly to those who have good grades through junior year.

Thank you so much for all your replies. I am very sorry for not being clearer, but yes I am a senior and I am taking AP Calculus and AP Government (We the People if that helps). I am applying to Macaulay Honors and a couple 7 year medical programs as my reaches.

Thank you so much for your help. I don’t like to hear that it could affect me this much, but I am glad to know that there is a great deal of importance placed on the mid year reports. Thank you!
