Middle 50% range of SAT low!

check the collegeboard middle 50% of first-year SAT scores, it is low. Are they accurate? Also when do people usually hear from regular selection?

Collegeboard:
Middle 50% of
First-Year Students Percent Who
Submitted Scores
SAT Reasoning Verbal: 530 - 660 61%
SAT Reasoning Math: 560 - 670 61%

USAFA:

Verbal Aptitude 590-670 630
Math Aptitude 620-710 663

ACT Mid-50% Range Mean
English 26-31 28
Reading 28-32 30
Mathematics 27-32 30
Science Reasoning 27-32 29

The collegeboard number looks absurdly low. Doesn't jive with anything out there that I've read.

Im curious, what is the "middle 50%" range? I know what the mean is. I scored above the "mean" but am still within the "middle 50%"... how can i interpret that?

It means that 25% of the people scored above the high of the range, and 25% of the scores were below. You were above 50%, but below the 75% range.

The board is meeting this week for regular selection. I would think we should hear something shortly.

spnmyung I do not think that there is anyway the mid 50% of first-year SAT scores is accurate on the College Board website. I do not understand how they can come up with these scores considering they did not select this year’s class. These score have been changed, I looked at them early in the year and they were the same as the mid 50% SAT scores on USAFA’s website.

"It means that 25% of the people scored above the high of the range, and 25% of the scores were below. You were above 50%, but below the 75% range."

The 50% mark is determined by the median not the mean. That's not necessarily true.

Hey Nick mom... how do you know that?

They do send out LOA (letters of assurance) to those who are appointed early. It could be based on those, but then the scores should be higher. Ironic.

The AFA had asked my son to retake the CFA back in January. After pumping some iron, he re-took it and sent it in. Well, there was no confirmation that it had ever been received, so we called the admissions contact at the AFA to see if they got the new CFA and if he should keep re-taking it until the March 1st deadline. We were told the new CFA was good (whew!), but that he still didn't receive an early decision appointment, but that the regular decision board was meeting the week of March 6. We will be on pins and needles all next week waiting for a call!

Anyone hear yet?
