Middlebury RD 2013

Crap. Is it a bad sign that I haven't gotten that letter natalia got about judging applicants?

^word to that.

What is the point of a "likely letter"? Why not just send out an "early write" acceptance? (though I'm not sure I understand the point of that, either).

I think part of my app was turned in after they reviewed mine (or didnt because it was incomplete), because they havent updated what was turned in, which is unfourtunate because after visiting I was really set on the school. I'm hoping I still have a chance.

What other schools are you guys applying to?

To the people who're asking what the point of an EE likely letter: it's so they can dangle your admissions decision in front of your face for a little while longer, while at the same time sort of complimenting you/making you like them more. I've been on the receiving end of one official EE letter and two unofficial ones, and I'm getting a little aggravated...can't they just tell me their decision, already?

ATLs, in addition to Midd, I've applied to Bowdoin, Wellesley, Mt. Holyoke, Smith, Swarthmore, Williams, Colby, Connecticut College, Bryn Mawr, and UMass Amherst. The only one I've conclusively gotten into so far is UMass Amherst Honors College. :(

I agree with LaMariposa's assessment; that's why they do it. It's in a college's best interest to keep you flattered and keep them in the forefront of your mind if they want you to matriculate.

I've gotten into Notre Dame (EA) and Colgate-alumni memorial scholar. I have yet to hear from the rest, which are: Bowdoin, Dartmouth, Cornell, Duke, Johns Hopkins, Rice, and Washington & Lee.

You didn't apply to Midd?

That makes sense. It could also get you in a biased mood towards that college, i.e. they contacted me first with a more-than-likely letter so I should go there. Note that it doesn't necessarily mean that your FA will be great though :S

LaMariposaAzul - if you didn't get the letter that natalia got, I'm sure it was a mistake. E-mail the admissions office and politely ask if something was amiss.

Also, Midd hasn't sent a 'likely' letter in a few years. Last year's early letter came with a decision - it will probably be the same this year.

Maybe they don't send "official" likely letters, but last year my neighbor received an e-mail from the admissions office (about a week before acceptances were mailed) that basically said that they hoped to see her at Midd in the fall.

Well, then I'll be hoping for an early acceptance since I already have one...

^^ Seems to me that this is very much in line with "a watched pot never boils."

^^^ killjoy. the anticipation is the best part!

Didn't say I wasn't watching!!! For how much I follow CC in general, it would seem obvious I am as much a masochist as the next guy!

Hmmm... As an accepted EDI applicant, I'm with guys in spirit. Just... enjoy the spirit of excitement that's going on now and define your success in this whole process as not acceptance but rather that you decided to put yourself out there even if it meant the possibility of getting hurt. Somber and pretentious words, I know, but I wish you all the best of luck. Truly :}

omg! I'm so excited. Does anyone else get up and ask their parents if they've received any mail? I do it all the time!

I also have a question. I live in Germany, went to boarding school in Australia (graduated in November) but am a US citizen. Do they view me as an international or a US citizen? Because geographically I would be an international?

AHHHHHH! I hate not knowing answers to these things!!

You are a US citizen.

^ agreed. Your citizenship is determined by your passport and/or birth certificate. A good question would be those people that were born into dual citizenship (Angelina Jolie's kids come to mind).

k. then I guess I'm back in the game. my dad's German, and I've got the US and German citizenship. Am I international now?
