I am currently in a rut, and I can’t help but feel like I’m at the bottom of a deep, dark trench.
As of now, I am in 11th grade, planning on college, definitely. My grades are well kept; A’s in every class with the exception of Algebra II, which is now a C+.
We recently took our midterm exams, and it turns out I did horrible on the math test. I have never done so poorly on an exam…but the thing is, I studied and actually had a dash of confidence for once while taking the test. So of course, my grade in there is a C+, a total embarrassment on my part.
How badly do midterm exams affect the overall grade? And are my chances of getting into college jeopardized by this? I often think about my chances of succeeding and always end up having bad thoughts. I’m in two AP classes, and they’re going just fine. But math has always been my struggle.
Thank you for reading, and I apologize for ranting…this was just tearing me apart from the inside out.
Midterms do affect grades quite a bit. How much did it drop your overall average? What I would do is speak to the teacher and see if you could have another opportunity. This definitely isn’t an option in college but in high school many teachers just want to help their students succeed. Say that it was a fluke and you know that you could do better given another opportunity. If in the end, you end up with a C+, it’s not the end of the world. One of my best friends had a C in a class (she was pretty much a straight A student other than that one course) and she managed to get herself into one of the top universities in the US.
Good Luck!
