Midyear report worries?

Throughout high school, I've been getting all A's and one A- per year. However, second semester senior year I got mostly A-'s and one B+. I am taking all AP and honors classes, and I'm taking one more AP than I did last year. Since I only averaged a decrease of one letter grade, would this be perceived as a downward trend on my midyear report and diminish my chances of acceptance? Or is it within the range of acceptable grade fluctuation? I applied to other top schools, such as some Ivies, Tufts University, and Amherst (I did apply to safeties too). Thanks so much!

It’s hard to say, but it would be better not to have grades go down. If the classes look rigorous, the comments are good, and the overall application is excellent, that won’t sink you, but for a borderline case, it certainly might.

This is not an issue. If you had a D in the class, then yeah I would worry…but a B, will not negatively affect your admission status.

With Mom… Williams is not “numbers driven” but rather gets a holistic impression of the candidate and acts accordingly. One B? It is not going to keep you out if the rest of the application is favorable…

I believe they’ll take a holistic view of your full application… I mean no one will turn down a prospective student only because there’s a B on his or her midyear report.
