Midyear Report?

Do ED acceptees have to mail one???

Unfortunately, yes.

The mid-year report don't work for my school because our 2nd quarter (not semester) grades gets inputed into the school system after Feb 1. So Columbia only gets my 1st quarter grades.

Quick question for anybody filing the Mid-Year Report:

Is the "Class Rank & GPA" section supposed to be different from when we send it in our original application? I mean, how many schools out there recalculate overall GPA and rank every quarter?

do they give midyear reports a lot of importance? because if they do..im screwed....

Actually you do NOT have to send in a mid-year report if you are an ED acceptee. I had the same question and called them. The guy told me NO, all you have to do is send in the final transcript. The mid-year report is only a supplement that is to sway them if you haven't been accepted yet.

the midyear report is so weird. . . . it asks the same counselor rec questions all over again, like "do you recommend this student to attend Columbia?" and I'm like, hello, I'm already IN

oh good info beachpanda

I'll just have my counselor send the rec
She never even asked me for the midyear form, anyway, so I assume she's already got it under control

hrm why are you sending a rec when you're already in?

Sorry for the mis-informed info guys, special thanks goes out to beachpanda.

But I'll just call to double-check because I definitely heard it somewhere.
Either way, the application said,

"The Mid-Year School Report, which tells us of your schoolwork in the first part of this academic year, must be postmarked no later than February 1, or as soon as mid-year grades are available. (Note: if you are applying to Columbia after having already finished secondary school, then you may disregard the Mid-Year School Report entirely.)"

If this was solely for RD, wouldn't Columbia already have their 1st quarter grades?
Don't know why they wouldn't just say it on the instructions that ED acceptees don't have to send them in?

Yea, call and double-check please, and get back to us so we can confirm it twice. Who knows? Maybe the guy that answered was a complete moron.

I was under the impression that we had to send it too, until I called them and asked about it. How would they know to warn you about getting rescinded before they get your final transcript? (Not like I am planning to slack off THAT much) Do they just call the school?

"Supposedly" your counselor has to report any suspensions or failures to Columbia so they can rescind you, LoL. (I'm only half-kidding)

I guess they still look at whatever ED students send in, just to check...but then again, one's who REALLY dropped isn't going to send in a Mid-Year if it's not mandatory.

A girl two years ago from my school got rescinded from Colgate around June, had no choice but a community college. So if you end up having bad grades, the best thing to do is to tell a college beforehand so something can be worked out...academic probation perhaps?

wait DID ED kids have to mail them? i didn't mail mine in..i figured i didn't mess up that badly. UGH

"must be postmarked no later than February 1, or as soon as mid-year grades are available."

This means, if my marks are availible mid feb, i send the report then or do I send the report by feb 1 even if the marks are not availible?

can someone give me the link for Columbia's Midyear report? I can't find it anywhere on their site. Thanks

"or as soon as mid-year grades are available."

I think those are key words right there...ie if your midyear report is in by mid february i wouldn't worry about it.
