how important are midyear reports?? are they a big enough factor to reject someone who would have been accepted otherwise??

Yes, I would have to say that an otherwise strong application could get screwed up by a bad mid-term report especially if you are applying to a competitive school....why you ask, do you have some poor grades listed?

I know good grades on the mid-term help a little, at least in my case...I had 5 courses listed on my Mid-Term report and signed by my Profs..all A's and I got accepted into Fordham, NYU, Purchase and Columbia ..I did get rejected by Vassar but they received 100 apps for only 4 transfer spots so I don't think anything would have helped someone coming out of community college in that case,lol...

well kind of... i have all a's in my AP classes besides a possible c in AP Calculus AB. i haven't gotten my final grade back though. math sucks

I would say that if you state your intention to major in a liberal arts field, the poor math grade may be overlooked, if you want to major in a math or science related field and it's a competitive school, you may be in trouble.

Also make it a point to explain your poor math grade in your essay, that helps. I actually failed a non-credit remedial intro Algebra course when I first got to community college. It was non-credit so I didn't get a letter grade only a "U" meaning "Unsatisfactory" but admission committees know what that means.
I was in the same boat except I was dealing with transferring out of community college but I had all A's in everything except that one math course.

I worked my ass off and passed it the second time around and subsequently received an "A" in a college level math course (Logic) but I did explain my rocky start and why I got a "u"..I also made it a point to state that I was planning on being an English/Lit major so I felt that my one weak academic area would not hurt my chances for success at the school. It must have worked because I did gain acceptance to most of my top choices.
