Minimum GPA?

I have a 2.99 or something near that UC GPA. A reason for my low grades in sophomore year was due to a family problem. If my counselor writes a letter explaining my situation will the UCs give me a chance? I have a 26 ACT and a 1950 SAT (if my SAT course works).

I’m interested in UCSC, UCD, UCR and UCSB.

I don't think your counselor could do anything about it; he/she cannot change the rules of the UC application process.

I meant can they write a letter explaining my circumstance?

No, but you can on for your essays on the UC application

Explain about it on your essay dude, but don't use it as an excuse. Talk about how it was a stepping stone to change you and your aspirations. Tell what you learned and how it will help you to succeed.

Isn't the minimum to apply 3.0 weighted? If you don't pass that threshold, you can't apply.

my buddy has the same problem.

he has roughly a 2.9 UCGPA. does this mean he ABSOLUTELY cannot get accepted into a UC campus?

I believe you can qualify by test scores alone ...providing all your scores are above 580. This means all 3 areas of the SAT I and both SATII need to be 580 or more. Double check with the UC eligibility index

To qualify by exam all components...3 parts of the SAT I's and 2 different SATII's ...must add up to 3450...with none below 580

like a thousand

Thanks Calpal. And if we take the ACT it's just a converted score right?

The ACT must score at least 25 in all categories, as well as the 580 minimum on the 2 SAT II's
